A kick-ass song indeed! I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Intended for Purple Rain, this song was taped during the benefit concert for the Minnesota Dance Theatre company at First Avenue, August 3rd 1983. It's a simple ballad with an electric piano to the fore. Prince sings of the sexual electricity that exists between him and his lover. No known studio recording is in circulation.

what part does he say that..i have that track..and i could never hear it! after the first verse, somewhere amongst the first chorus...i know the track's edited on the work, vol. 1...why they edited that out, i dunno. it made it cuter.

what part does he say that..i have that track..and i could never hear it! He says that on the other version in circulation. Sounds like a rehersal, it's the one where he says Auntie Em at the end. I think the other version was recorded at that famous concert where they recorded the other live tracks that ended up on Purple Rain. I prefer the live one.

The (in)famous Tim D'Aquino edited it so it wouldn't interrupt with the flow. That's the version which ended up on bootlegs like H2O and The Work. Repo Man's got all night, every night.

I have a bootleg VIDEO of that First Ave. Concert/Dance Co. Benefit and when he performs "Electric Intercourse" he doesn't say "Wake up Wendy" or "Auntie Em" so I guess that must be from the rehearsal.

All I've got is an unfinished .mp3 file of a studio version, and a really good live version. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

There is no studio version of Electric Intercourse circulating. There are two live versions of the cut, one from a gig and one from a rehearsal. We Can Funk

Which of the two versions was recorded first. Presumable the live one was 8.3.83 so when was the other?

The rehearsal was the rehearsal for the benefit concert, so one would assume that one was recorded first. Repo Man's got all night, every night.

First thing you need to try is regular intercourse. Far safer, than switching directly for the electric.

I never understood why it wasn't released... It's great song and is a good sum up for the whole purple rain era.
I'm loving it... keep searching for a good quality recording, There are different ones circulating on the net...

That's easy : The Beautiful Ones, its replacement on the soundtrack. Truth be told, the "Just Heard Electric Intercourse" thread is a staple of the Org -- I swear we go through it every month.
