Sometimes it snows in april's last sentence I hear "love it isn't love until is had" but everytime people post the lyrics it's posted like: "love it isn't love until is past".
Is it "had" or "past"??? I'm talking about the parade version by the way Sorry for my english

On the acoustic live versions from the Musicology tour, he says 'until it's had' I believe, but the original is 'passed'.

What does it mean and what is he talking about is it CARDS or CARS? Those Kind Of CARS OR CARDS Don't Pass You EVERYDAY...I think he means people. That kind of thing..SAD SONG... ![]()

Thank you. And if you use logic, 'past' rhymes perfectly with the previous line's final word - 'last'.

I know what dtt-lyrics says but I've heard it again and I'm still hearing "had". Am I crazy or just a little deaf?

You know, having just re-listened to the ending, you're right, it does sound like 'had'. The previous line is 'all things they say never last' so 'passed' (or the badly grammatial 'past') rhymes. You can definately hear the 'sss' sound in 'last' but you certainly don't hear it in the final word, it does sound more like 'had'.

You can definately hear the 'sss' sound in 'last' but you certainly don't hear it in the final word, it does sound more like 'had'. well, 'past' could be grammatically correct & make sense, but surely that can't be the intended meaning. it would have to mean 'the past', rather than something having come and gone. Which is a stretch. If it's 'had', then i'm seriously disappointed in prince, because that's just wank.

Hmmm, I don't know all the grammatical ins-and-outs of 'past' and 'passed', but certainly he means the love is 'in the past' or that it has 'passed' i.e. passed by, is over - but 'had' would also imply the same thing. I don't know, why not a have fresh listen and decide for yourself? It's definately 'had' on the live version from ONA live, you definately don't hear the 'p' sound but rather the softer 'h' sound, I'm thinking now that newpowerboy is right and the lyrics as printed are not what is actually sung.

Didn´t he sing " until it´s HERE .." in LA/ Staples Center March 2004 ?
Of course that wasn´t the album version, but I´m positive he said "..here..". " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

It's "had", definitely it's "had". I don't care what dtt-lyrics or the official sheet music says. It's "had". Listen to it, it's "had"

I don't think I've listened to that dull song enough to even know what the last line is. Andy is a four letter word.

for nigh 20 years I thought it was "had"...
I listened to it just now and it sounds like "hahhh" or "pahhh" wtf?

It's "had". I know because at the Musicology cd release thing at Webster Hall in NY, I was on his right hand side, right against the stage. I was singing right along with him during Sometimes it snows and at the end I said "past" and he said "had". I was sooo embarrased, I hoped that there were no cameras on me. Luckily my error was not televised!
But now I know it's "had". To GOD be the Glory!

Prince began changing many of his lyrics for live performances the late 90's. Originally, the lyric is 'past', however it is difficult to soften the essentially acapella hard "P" (as in the word "past") on a live mike, so he changes it to "had", since this is easier on the mike and the listener's ears.

Yes, it´s definitely "past" on the album version ( and occasionally during some ONA concerts, not everytime though). But what about the LA Staples Center,March 2004 version...didn´t he sing " Love it isn´t love until it´s...here ?" Just wondering... (And if not I will be the king of misheard lyrics and Frog will be laughing cause I´m still digging through my old cassettes looking for MJ´s version of Never Can Say Goodbye where he fucks up one line and sings Never Can Stay Goodbye...I´m a 100 % sure, but still haven´t found it yet.) ![]() [Edited 10/29/05 2:32am] [Edited 10/29/05 2:33am] " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. awww..baby. for those who appreciate this style of music there is much to appreciate. Indeed. Simply beautiful song. I agree that the line should be "passed", but it sounds the same, so it doesn't affect me when I listen to it. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Everybody, just do this for me. Listen to the album version. Listen to the line before - 'All things they say never last' - listen JUST to the 'st' part as it is sung.
You can hear it, right? Now listen to the last line. Don't try to hear the whole word, just listen for Prince saying the 'st' sound in 'past'. You CAN'T hear it, right? It should be there, but it's not, at least I can't hear it. I think a lot of people are not REALLY listening to it, they're just filling in the 'st' part in their own heads. There's no reason for the 'st' to be silent since it isn't when he pronounces 'last'. That's why I now think it is another word. What that word is, I don't know. If it starts with a 'p' it must be 'paaaaahhhh....' 'cos there ain't no damn 'st' in it!
