There's a rehearsal of this circulating that was said to be from the summer of 1987. One of the first known live performances of The Sex of It was at the Reseda Country Club aftershow the night of the 1987 MTV Music Awards. From this information it's assumed this track was written and recorded in 1987, not necessarily intended for Kid Creole and The Coconuts, but possibly intended for the next Sheila E project.

I have a CD single of the Kid Creole version of the song with some remixes on it. I don't recall if they're any good... If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
