Is this Prince's last chance?

One more album, and if he doesn't deliver the goods, then I may have to give up on the man--not the old stuff, but his new stuff may just not be on my list anymore.

Thanks for sharing. Many folks gave up on Prince years ago, and yet he's still going strong. So I doubt your absence will send him plummeting into the depths of despair.

There are thousands of people across the globe who denounce Prince's new music, yet they continue to show an avid interest in it, I should know, I'm one of them.

Dear Prince,

If you don't give me what I want, I am SO breaking up with you.
Seriously.
I know that I said that I was through with you after you released
(insert name of album thought of as "not up to par" here), but I mean it this time.

I understand what you mean...I considered giving up being a fan in the 97-2000 era, but I am glad things changed for better and here I am.

Musicology was a nice pop album. Prince had the strategy of delivering a "simple" pop CD for the adult marketing, in the year that he had a ´comeback´ with the Grammy, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, etc.

I am curious for the next release. I doubt that he will make innovative stuff, but at least I think it won´t be so explicit intended for the masses. Let´s wait and hear.

If the next LP is anything like the abominably flacid Musicology, I may give up on the little uber-holy motherfucker.

If I want middle of the road, I'll listen to top 40 radio.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I usually don't answer threads not related to the musical aspects of Prince's career (meaning technical aspects), but allow me to say this:

Prince has reached his peaked as far as innovative pop, funk, soul, etc. goes but, he is still a great, great talent. Someone hit it on the head earlier by saying that his live shows are actually stronger than ever -- this much I agree. If you think you are going to get another PR, DM, 1999, P, or SOTT, -- don't hold your breath. It is not going to happen most likely, but remember this . . . when you see him live, you will get to hear those classic gems better than before. For me it goes like this: Michael J. is not as great (no where near it), but I still respect his legend and catalog. Paul M.'s songwriting and melodies will never match what he did with the Beatles, but he is still going strong. Stevie W., Stevie Nicks, Elton John, George Michael, Aretha Franklin -- you name them; they all have ho-hum current recordings, but they are all nevertheless, very, very talented. I wouldn't miss any of them live. So with that stated: Pump your late 70s and 80s Prince music, watch the old videos, discuss his musical talents, and sit back and enjoy the show when it comes to your town.

As far as i'm converned, Prince is still the best musician around even though i discovered many other great talents over the years.

Every time a Prince album disappointed me a bit Prince came with something wonderful with the following album.

Grafitti Bridge & D&P disappointed me a bit, then cam the wonderful O+>, followed by the amazing Come/Gold/Exodus era

Chaos disappointed me a bit, then came the wonderful Emancipation, followed by the amazing Crystal Ball/Newpower Pack/The War/Beautiful Strange era

Rave didappointed me a bit, then came the wonderful Rave Un2 The Year 2000, followed by the amazing NPGMC 2001 era & the even more amazing N.E.W.S.

So i'm not worried : Musicology disappointed me a bit, but i know that something extraordinary will come sooner or later.

& even the albums which disappointed me a bit r still great in comparison of most albums that hit the record stores anyway.

Prince have been there 4 me, giving me thousands of hours of happiness 4 the last 16 years. I'll sure b there 4 him buying his records 'til the end no matter what !!!

I was freaked out around the same time GustavoRibas was freaked during 1997-2000. I too thought I was going to drop him but then in 2001, I got a bunch of Bootlegs and then The Rainbow Children came and I knew I wasn't going anywhere. Hopefully Prince will give you what you want in time. Just stay tuned.

How exactly to you give up being a fan? Do you throw all his stuff in the bin and cry for a week? Come on, just play his CDs or not. Pick your favourite. There's no need for this all-or-nothing banter; you're romanticising about somebody who doesn't even know you.
Life it ain't real funky unless you got that orgPop.

With all the material that Prince has recorded through the years. And all the time that he spends writing and recording new material. There's got to be something great in there somewhere. I won't give up on him.

No Prince can sit on his laurels, he just has 2 keep touring. You cant expect the aman 2 drop Purple Rains and S.OT. all the time

It happens on every artist. Maybe u'll understand.

Do you know what is to be to be an unknown artist ?
Were you afraid once with a white sheet ?

I don't P. did, this is enough, as an artist.

My problem with his creativity is you're never rich enough to buy ALL

He is singing and playing better guitar than ever, he has the best drummer he ever had, besides he had a "big" year in 2004, grammy, rock n roll hall of fame, sucessfull tour, and sucessful album. So his pockets are full of money and he does not need next album to be a hit. So, it's not a good time to give up on him.

Never looked at it as his last chance but now that its ben brought up it has got me thinking. I think that, unless he delivers (whatever that may be to us ecletic bunch!) i feel that many fans will take the great year of 2004 as their sign-off from following the man and his wonderful career.
