Deleted Scenes from Graffiti Bridge

While watching the theatrical trailer, I took note of a few scenes which didn't make their way into the final edit of the film. Just thought I would share razz

Morris and Jerome talk about profits

A shot of the "Can't Stop This Feeling I Got" performance segment

From Royal Visions volume 3 lurking

"The Latest Fashion" dance off between P and the Time

From Jimmy's hawt solo during "The Latest Fashion"

The following sequence was taking from the outtake footage that they snuck in at the end of the "New Power Generation" video clip:

Aura shows up out of nowhere with a small can of paint

Aura tags her boy P on the shirt with a painted reminder of her visit

Aura disappears into thin air after leaving her mark

The "Under The Cherry Moon" trailer seemed to be free of deleted scenes when I last checked it out but the "Purple Rain" trailer certainly does have a good number of deleted goodies throughout it. drool3

Would have been much better if they kept those scenes! Goddamn.

Who's authorizing the deleting?! If I pay for a movie on DVD or whatever, I want to see every scene. I hate it when some pretentious corporate dumbass gets to decide what a fan can and cannot watch. mad

They are called "FILM EDITORS". They work with the Director, who in this case was Prince.

As Colm said above, the only person to blame for us not getting these deleted scenes is probably Prince. They were orignally cut from the respective films either because of time constraints or because Prince probably felt they didn't belong. And I'm pretty sure Warner Bros. would have LOVED to have deleted scenes to help sell those DVDs. This is one time you can't lay blame at Warner Bros. feet.

I've always felt that Prince made a huge mistake by deleting the "Can't Stop This Feeling I Got" performance from the movie. That song and the performance is much more exciting than the bland "New Power Generation".

Many years ago, when I was more involved, I read an alternative script for GB. It was a much more spiritual story in which Prince died in the fire at the beginning but was sent back to "save" Morris. There followed a story of redemption, eventually leading to Morris and Aura getting together, having children and Prince being allowed to enter heaven having successfully saved Morris' soul.

It sounds bizarre, I know, but it was a much better film than the one eventually released - well, the version I saw in my head as I read it was - and seems to back up the rumours of a P v WB fight over the direction of the movie.

There was also another script for UTCM, wasn't there, with the "Kiss" scene taking place at a children's party Christopher and Mary crash and dance in - or did I imagine that?

I recall an earlier script, from 1987,in which Madonna played Prince's girlfriend.Cat played his other girlfriend and the two of them were fighting for Prince's attention.Uptown printed this script in one of their issues and it was truly horrible. It would have been the worst movie of all time.

I think the script I read came after the Madonna involvement. It was very strange, a highly religious concept and, at the time, probably a logical step from the Lovesexy thang. I seem to remember Prince getting very upset at the US reaction to the Lovesexy tour. There was a magazine that ran a quote "If I could just get one person to understand" or something like that.

I always looked at GB as a simplification and justification of the more complex Lovesexy message. It seemed Prince really wanted to get a message over and was being patient in its conveyance. He really did seem as convinced then about a liberal attiutude towards religion and God as a concept as he is now about his JW stuff.
