It's quite amusing actually. As a matter of fact I think the clip was included in some sort of history of Soul Train special.

He first appeared on Soul Train in early Spring of 1980 w/ "I Wanna Be Your Lover" and "Why You Wanna Treat You So Bad".

That was "American Bandstand". Prince never performed on "Soul Train" until 1994.

No,he only appeared on 'Soul Train' one time,in the spring of 1994.To see a listing of all the old episodes,go to www.soultrain.com and click on "Soul Train Weekly Series".I checked the listings for 1979 and 1980,and there was no Prince appearance.

You beat me to it David. I was going to post the same link.

It was pretty lame. I did like it when he did a stage dive during "Now." That was kinda cool.

Otherwise, big thumbs down, esp. the Nona Gaye thing. Pretty dumb. Nobody was into the performances, except maybe Mayte.

The Artist was the only guest on that episode. Holly Robinson-Pete was the host and it aired around '95. The first song slips my mind but the second (or maybe the first) one was The most beautiful girl in the world (Mustang mix), the third song was NOW, the Fourth was Acknowledge me and the Fifth song was Love Sign w/ Nona Gaye. During Love Sign Mayta was holding up signs that said things like "peace", "no guns" etc. Nona Gaye was performing at a podium like a politician and the Artist played the one eyed bass in the back up high. I have it on tape and it was a pretty good. Yes - he was lip-syncing which kind of sucked but he did jump off the stage into the audience. When Holly gave him his props and said thank you he just nodded as he squatted on one knee next to his band.

As soon as Prince and Mayte were married in 2/96 She stopper performing with him on stage.

Prince and Mayte were not married at this time. As soon as Prince and Mayte got married she stopped performing with him on stage.

He wasn't sucking a lollipop on American Bandstand. He did suck on a lollipop and refused to sing at them AMA's in '95 (the same year he performed Billy Jack Bitch, Eye hate you and 319) and Quincy Jones put the mike to his face during the performance of We are the world and Prince put the lollipop in Q's face.

On American Bandstand he was acting shy every time Dick Clark asked a question. He only answered one question with a straight answer the other questions were answered with hmmm's and I don't know's.....

Unless he did the same two songs on Soul Train, you may be thinking of American Bandstand.

And I remember him doing one of the remixes of TMBGITW and Acknowledge Me, but I don't remember the other two.

No. He did BOTH! He did American Bandstand 3 days before my birthday, Jan 26, 1980! I saw them both!

Yeah, he did do both.

I clicked on there too, but he was on there shortly after American Bandstand. I have the VH1 tape of P on American Bandstand and I also have his performance on the Midnight Special. Don't have the one on Soul Train, but Dave, he was on there in 80.

I remember Don Cornelius telling Vanity 6, when they appeared on there, that if Prince ever performs on Soul Train, he's gonna get interview.."Tell him that for me"...unquote..

When 1999 came out, Prince had stop doing interviews....

I really don't believe he performed on Soul Train until the 90's...

Just Vanity 6 (Once) & The Time (Three) performed in the 80's era...

Remember, Prince was looking for that cross-over audience instead of a cult following....

And 'Little Red Corvette ' just became a cross-over smash at that time...

That's why he made those two Solid Gold appearances...

Because that was a mainstream show...

Even tho' 'Train' had a few white performers on there, it was still consider a 'Black' dance show....
