It was supposed to be a live broadcast of a show, but it never happened. As for the original question, no word of an official release, and personally I doubt there ever will be one, given that the tour ended over a year ago. I don't get why people are still pining for a Musicology Live DVD. Of all the shows Prince has put on, why this nastiness?!!

A couple reasons methinks: 1. It was THE biggest tour of last year. 2. It was Prince's most successful tour ever. 3. It was genuinely good with some things you never saw before (Prince stripped down just playing acoustic guitar etc.) 4. It was in the round chock full of hits fun of Lovesexy, but not with nearly as much preachiness. "New Power slide...."

As tours go, it was a pretty crappy one, treading water to the extreme, so why the demand for it on DVD - Just because it was once mentioned I guess.

To what? To that footage that's circulating on DVD. Repo Man's got all night, every night.

He could release this to coincide with his next 'major' in-store release, as many artists do.
Besides, the D&P video collection was released on home video the same day as the album - and the 3 Chains O' Gold home video was released the same day as the Come album. It happens. The length of time since the tour doesn't mean we'll never see it...

He doesn't own the rights to that footage. You will not see it in the store...ever. Repo Man's got all night, every night.

He doesn't own the rights to that footage. You will not see it in the store...ever. I assume you're talking about the LA show - I find this unlikely, but even if that's the case, doesn't he have around 80 other shows he does have the rights to?

He sold the rights so it could be broadcasted. As for the other shows, sure he has them, but even though most of his shows are recorded with multiple cameras for personal use that doesn't mean it's suitable for release. Considering how protective Prince is about retaining the rights to his product, that would be very surprising. Having seen the footage I think it's likely that he doesn't consider the Staples center show the good enough to be released. It's a fun show, but he definitely got better as the tour went on. I wouldn't release that particular concert for sale if I were him. There's also a pretty good chance that with Prince's notoriously short attention span to his projects, he's already done with Musicology and is now more concerned about his next 3 or 4 projects.

Doesn't say anything about what their negotiated deal with Prince was regarding later sale of the video on DVD.

I love this DVD, but some of the shows I saw later in the tour were definitely better. There's also a pretty good chance that with Prince's notoriously short attention span to his projects, he's already done with Musicology and is now more concerned about his next 3 or 4 projects.
x 1000 Hell, it looks like he might have lost interest in "3121" already (no more parties, at any rate), and nothing was ever released! "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great.
