A resounding NO.

Aside from Cat, Prince's female dancing foils have definitely cheapened to look of his shows. Mayte was particularly annoying during the Gold period and was overused in videos. The one in the Hit n Run 200? tour was the weakest -- it was like one of those generic models JB uses in his shows. With Cat, there was none of that feeling because she is not a generic beauty and her moves are not your typical Solid Gold steps. She was part of the band and had a great rapport with Prince and Sheila E. By comparison, Mayte was a piece of eye candy. She looks better but she's objectified. Her dancing was better than Cat but also extremely derivative and ultimately less personal than Cat's minimally choreographed moves.

But Cat was cool and I got used to Mayte. That there girl in the Rave Un2 The Year 2000 video didn't really seem right.

I think a foil in the shape of a band member - like he had in Wendy - would be better.
