Prince and PFunk Wow last night the PBS documentary with George Clinton the Parliment Funkadelic had some good footage that made me sit up in bed. From James Brown, Mowtown to Prince it traced the roots of funk. George Clinton and Prince sure do know how to keep the party moving with music that doesn't stop. It's what's been missing lately, any thoughts about this influence?

I was this last night also, and DAMN!! I had to break out my Funkadelic CD's and listed to a few tracks on the way in to work this morning just to keep my high from last night...
For those of you who missed this, it will re air again tonight on your local PBS network..tape it, DVR it..but this is a historical doctrine, and should be recorded. As 4 keeping the funk, I think there are soooo many rappers who have mad respect for George and the P Funk. But I do think there is a shortcoming, due to lack of musicianship (Prince has stated this time and time again). Parliament/Funkadelic was so DAMN FUNKY and they used REAL instruments!! They were able to create a sound by fusing various stylings. There is not a way to "sample" music to achieve this goal, or to "Funk in a new direction" without picking up some instruments. My children listen to a LOT of rap, but I introduced them to George, Parliament years back, so they could here were all the stuff that they listen to originates...and to my surprise they dug the music a lot more than I anticipated. If they can get it, as all the rappers do, the youth will not let the Funk die, but there needs to be musicians to pioneer them into the next phase. must be something in the water they drink..

Musicians like Prince and P-Funk that can lead the way just need more exposure. People don't know what they're missing.
