Prince's Greatest Bloopers

Remember when his microphone accidently turned away from him when first started singing Gett Off on the MTV awards in '92?
He looked a bit surprised and embarrassed for just a second and pretended to tighten the mic.

I also saw a video of Toronto Lovesexy '88, and right when he is walking up to the mic, after he steps out of Thunderbird, he narrowly misses walking right into the mic and hitting it with his face, he quickly dodges it. The rest of the concert was smokin, though!

How about when he goes over to the organ voiced keyboard at the beginning of the Detroit Parade concert, and the sound is inaudible? The sound guy quickly turns it up after a moment, and Prince comes back to it.

How about the Benefit '87 concert with miles Davis? Prince pulls the rope to let down balloons, and he just keeps pulling rope with no balloons falling. He says,"Come get your rope." And, when he hits he keyboards, no sound... "aint playing shit."

I don't think there is anything funny about Prince getting hit in the face with the microphone or just any kind of VIOLENCE! Maybe if you worked for him you could have prevented all of these occurences since you are so Damn Perfect!

That is comedy--Matthew come get your rope. I always had it on audio and wondered what he meant until I saw the vid. Also on the Grammy show in 85 when he sang Baby Im A Star, he misses the mark of singing the first verse of the song and I believe hits himself in the mouth with the mic because he screws up the mic with his knocking it down and trying to pick it back up on the one tryin to be James Brown thing.

Not really a blooper, but I know I and several of my friends get a big laugh over Prince just standing there sucking on his lollipop during the "We are the World" tenth anniversary thing. Was that the grammy awards or american music awards, I can't remember? I loved his spoiled brat attitude back then!

In Rotterdam D&P tour 92 there was a mic that didn't work during Live 4 Love. And the tape rolled on and on...(live4lovelive4love). The man was not amused.

In Gent during the D&P tour opened and during kiss 3 mics went out after each other (and sound was bad 2)...

That got the man angry...

In the Sign O The Times film when Prince is performing "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night"...

...Prince & Cat are doing a little dance step together while someone is pulling Prince's mic stand from the stage...(you can see the stand being pulled down into the crowd...lol)...Next, you hear Prince yell "A-train!", and the camera cuts back to Prince at center stage with no mic and no mic stand...heh...very quickly, he looks around for it---even under his jacket, seemingly to say, "well, maybe I put it in here"---(lmao). He plays it off very well, though, by waving his hands like a orchestra conductor for the last bit of the "A-train" vamp...lol. Finally...it was edited so that the next camera shot shows the mic stand back in place...hehehe... smile

How 'bout in '91 on Arsenio...

Near the end of the show, during "Daddy Pop" when he's wearing the yellow suit and do-wrap, close to the end of the song, and he struts over to his blue piano and quickly throws the top of it up to release a bunch of balloons. He threw the top open so quickly that it bounced back down and it looks, on tape, as if he almost got his fingers smashed trying to catch it. He pulled away just in time. smile

Also, on the Chicago ONA bootleg, when he's talking in the slowed down voice during "The Rainbow Children," there's one part (right after he says "she and 12 others were kicked to the curb") when he's still doing a narrative that should be in that altered voice, but it's just his normal voice. It's tough to catch, but it sounds like a mistake to me.

It seems that Prince has a lot of problems with a microphone. After all of these years, I wonder why Prince hasn't mastered proper use of the mic...

Did anyone mention the 1985 Grammys where, during "Baby I'm A Star",Prince accidentally smacked himself with the microphone?

There is also a 1993 'Act 1' show where, during "Scandalous",Prince trips on-stage.Does anyone have this video?

Ok here is a nice memory:

During the 1990 Nude tour in Rotterdam it was pouring rain out of the skies. The man and his band were nearly soaked.

The piano was safely put below a plastic cover that was functioning as kinda roof. Prince was playing nothing compares 2 U and during this song exactly at the right moment in the song the cover gave way and litres of water from the heavens stormed down. He was pretty cool about it. He flicked with his head and threw his hair back and played a long (let's say it is a golden memory)...

I have a bootleg from a New Year's Eve show he plays with Miles Davis, Sheila E, Rosie Gaines, Larry Graham; where he tries to sing "Auld Lang Syne" but he doesn't know the words. He knows the first few verses, and then after humming it for a while, he admits he doesn't know the words and the band and crowd have to pick it up for him. Hilarious!

I'm suprised no1 has mentioned the mistake he makes on the official Lovesexy Live video. In the second half of the show, during Eye Wish u Heaven. At the end first section of the song, standing next to Mico he 4gets the last guitar part. Prince goes 2 sing and Mico plays the guitar line as he should. Prince shoots him a filthy look B4 realising his mistake. U can just about catch Mico making fun of him!

Cracks me up every time!

this one isn't so funny, but on one of those Act shows (I don't know if it was ACT I or II), Mayte pretends to be prince under the chained police hat miming the word to "My Name is Prince".

She is way up on a swing that is supposed to set her down after drifting over the band from above, and she slips off of it and falls to the hard stage, but the show goes on, so I guess she wasn't hurt.

I saw it on a boot video back in '94.

The only other thing i can think of that hasn't been mentioned here is a Summer concert series performance that Prince did w/ Larry & Chaka on Good Morning America back in 1998...

Well anyway, u know it's like 11am eastern time when they're performing. Prince is doing a keyboard solo for Chaka Khan's "Sweet thang" & prince asks the crowd, "How r y'all doing 2NITE?!"

& a funnier thing is that the crowd screamed anyway as if it really was nite time.

i was like wtf?! it's only 11am! he went on as if he didn't notice. i'm sure he laughed when he saw the playback.

Here's another one that's hard 2 catch, but when U do, it's funny as hell:

On the 1987 Sign O the Times preview concert at First Avenue during 4ever in my life, not only did Prince pop a guitar string, but during the part where his "choir" is repeating "...alright, alright,..." he is doing a bunch of loud singing. His singing and screaming is so loud mixed with the band's singing that at the last minute he screams "just the drums" and put his head down thinking they heard the cue and would stop on the one, but the band missed it. Prince looked embarresed and shut the fuck up and gave them the cue again. U have 2 catch it, but it is 2 funny!

Or what about on the Stockholm Parade show, while Prince is singing "Head", he 4got the lyrics 2 the first verse so he pretty much had 2 improvise until Lisa's part came up b4 the chorus. Once again, funny as hell!
