C-Note vs Xpectation vs N.E.W.S.

They are all just him doing jazz right?, then how are they different from each other? or are they more similar than different?

If you go to the Music Club you can listen to snippets fo the pieces.

Go to the download area, wait for the music to load, and drag the fader.

I like N.E.W.S the best, but C-note and Xpectation are also some of my favourites aswell. They are all quite different. N.E.W.S is great cause of it's long tracks and the way they progress, C-note has a nice live feel to it and Xpectation is more like madhouse but with the use of violins.

Xpectation is more traditionnal jazz than the 2 others, less xperimental & less funk. It indeed sounds a bit like a Madhouse album, but with much more sophisticated arrangements. It's really a great album with songs that r in the same time very different but very cohesive as an album. It made Candy D. say that Prince is the best jazz musician of these days!

C-Note is 2 jazz-funk jams, 2 jazz-rock slow jams + Empty Room. Very good tracks in themselves (Copenhagen definitly has a wonderful groove & the 2 intrumental ballads have a very nostalgic/poetic feeling). But i somehow fail 2 c any cohesion in it as an album (what is Empty Room doing here?)

NEWS is lotsa jazz-funk jams & lotsa experimental jazz, a bit BillLaswellesque at some moments. Though lotsa people here don't like it it's by far the greatest of the 3 IMO, if not one of Prince's greatest album ever. The intro of East is extraordinary, Eric Leeds is wild as never b4, & there r some of the funkiest jams ever on it.

I don't know if Prince can b qualified as being "arrogant" with this "new directions in music" subtitles 4 the 3 albums, but they r indeed a respectable heritage 2 Miles Davis' "direction in music" series. More than that, they r definitly a new step in Prince's music, with him conquering new grounds, trying things he never has tried b4 & getting more sophistication in his arrangements than ever b4. I'd add that most of these tracks have been recorded in one take with minimal overdubs, & the cohesion of the musicians in what was lots of improvisation is just amazing! Any musician could tell u that the way they interact with each other is very impressive, shows not only thousand of hours working 2gether but also a deep mastery of both their respective instruments & the musical language in itself.

SNOOZE one of Prince's best albums?! falloff

I'm glad Prince doesn't stubbornly agree. Otherwise, we'd be seeing a concert where half the audience is asleep and the other half is walking out as Prince plays North.
