Whenever this question comes up, it's always The Neptunes that get a mention.

I dunno why people want Prince sounding like Britney Spears, Kelis, or Justin Timberlake.

It might get him a hit single or two, but is that what you're really looking for when you get a new Prince record?

I'm just looking for great music, whether it's a hit or not is completely irrelevant, certainly in this day and age when the commercial music industry, is just that, a commercial industry. A hit single means zip these days.

I think people name the Neptunes because of the very eclectic sound of the NERD albums; More rock and funk and new wave..Those releases are a bit more "Prince" oriented...The only way I would want Prince to work with Pharraell and Chad is if P let's the kids do the rhythm tracks...I think Prince's percussion sounds are a times a bit stale...

Also, I wouldn't mind Rick Rubin co-producing a Prince album...I think Rick would have the guts to tell Prince when he's doing too much...And i would like ?uestlove to do something...i like his stripped down style....

You see, this is where you go wrong. People on this thread keep focusing on Prince going back to do sumthing he already did...

I would rather Prince would refine things he's already good at and focus on one aspect of it, then give it another spin.

Here; Hooper's trackrecord;
Producer and remixer Nellee Hooper was behind some of the most successful and inventive dance-oriented pop music throughout the late '80s and on through the '90s.
Hooper came up as a DJ, as a member of the Wild Bunch — the Bristol-based collective that would develop into Massive Attack. Along with Jazzie B., he produced Soul II Soul through the release of the group's first two albums, both of which scored major hits ("Keep on Movin'," "Back to Life," "Get a Life").

Work followed for the likes of Tracy Chapman, Björk, Janet Jackson, and Sade. The Brit Awards honored Hooper in 1995 as Best Producer for his work on Massive Attack's Protection, Björk's Post, and Madonna's Bedtime Stores.

Janet??Wich song?

He IS a great producer and I'm sure he could do something with
Prince that we wouldn't expect.
I like Massive Attack and Björk's Post,Bedtime Stories
wasn't Madonna's best,in fact she needed a 'come-back'with Ray of Light after
this one.
It had some great tracks(Secret,Human Nature)but those are not the
Hooper songs.
But U got 2 admit,a lot off beats and plieps and stuff lol

Karlheinz Stockhausen!!!

That would at least stop the complaints about "Musicology" being "commercial" and "uninspired"... biggrin

Though he never worked as a pop producer, he will be fine with Prince. Both are very spiritual, lots of things to talk about!

"O.k. Prince, so let's do a 10-hours opera on 8 CDs. The first 45 min. shall be guitar noise which I will put some electronic effects on. And I will add 3 helicopters and 1 microwave to the mix..." biggrin

Stockhausen is a famous German composer of art music, known especially for his inventions in the field of electronic music. From 1977 to 2002, he wrote a 7-part opera cycle called LICHT (Light - the seven days of the week) with about 28 hours of music.

You can also find his picture on the cover of The Beatles' "Sgt. Peppers lonely hearts club band" btw. They seemed to appreciate his work.

You can also check out http://www.stockhausen.org. Crazy guy!

So don't take my suggestion too serious... biggrin

i don't understand how the neptunes could produce prince when they are a stylistic offshoot of him.... maybe they could just help him pick from his library of sounds? He needs someone different to push him, if he needs someone at all. Actually, in the past, what he had were bandmates with their own musical tastes of new styles that he wasn't into. That's what he needs. band members that are not just musicians, but visionaries.

Prince's has been releasing albums for twenty-seven years and he has

NEVER!

EVER!

...had a producer other than himself involved.

What the FUCK makes anyone think he would want to change that now or in the future!?

john brion (aimee mann, fiona apple)

joe henry (betty lavette, lizz wright)

wendy & lisa (themselves, doyle bramhall)

quincy jones (the discipline man...the discipline)

i personally think prince's album quality have dropped because he surrounds himself w/ yes men and technicially profition but creatively blank musicians...

the above people, im personally believe, are equals to prince when it comes to creating "sounds". where prince has the edge on all of them though is with his songwriting...(when he feels challenged...)

LOL! Re-lax! It's more so a question as to who would do him justice as opposed to PRINCE, YOU HAVE TO WORK WITH THIS GUY OR ELSE!

Danm if you don't like the topic... don't read it and most certainly.. don't post.

I know the reality of him being produced by someone else is as very unlikely to damn near impossible... but hey... I wouldn't mind Kanye West, Andre 3000, Alicia Keys or The Neptunes producing a track or two.

I would love to hear Optical produce a track with Prince. He is a drum and bass artist who teams up quite often with Ed Rush, but was producer on Grooveriders album "the Mysteries of Funk" and I think is very talented.
It would be interesting to hear what he would bring to the production side of a Prince track.
4 Hero would be another bunch of folks that might bring a lil angle to things too nod

U obviously haven't heard the Neptunes remix of TGRES! Now if that ain't proof that Neptunes are capable of producing a Prince track for the masses well...

thumbs up!

Yeah, I liked that remix too. I think it could really work, a Prince album produced by The Neptunes. That is if he wants a commercial album that actually sells.
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
