I think this was another one of those video and/or commercial single came out too late deals. P had a major world-wide hit with Most Beautiful Girl and Lovesign got some decent airplay from what I remember. But I think the commercial single was delayed or something and it didn't chart right away and radio backed off. Same thing that happened with "New Power Generation" single. I think that is what happened but my memory could be failing me. All good things they say never last...

It was meant to be a hit, and almost was...Prince promoted this as the follow-up to "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World," one of his biggest hits ever. It reached no.72 on the Billboard pop airplay chart and was about to be released as a commercial single (which would've allowed it to chart on Billboard's Hot 100 chart) when Warner Bros. called for a cease and desist. They had given permission to release and market "TMBGITW" independently, but only that song. When it was a hit, and and Bellmark Records wanted to release "Lovesign" as a follow-up, WB got pissed and made them stop. They were releasing the Come album and wanted Prince to promote that instead. Of course, he was mad at them over "Lovesign" (among other things) and refused to promote "Letitgo." So ultimately, with artist and label working against each other, all the related projects failed commercially. Too bad, it was a great period for him. The Gold Experience could've been one of his most successful albums ever.

Completely right, Russ Thyret left warners about this time, and they tightened their regulations regarding some artists like Prince. By late 94 Prince was at open war with their cold corporate style. Remember this was the time of OJ and Jacko's trial folks. Thanks to those mofo's at WB a lot of Top grade cuts never saw the light of day until their time had passed. The whole album of NPG acts is PHINE!!! 17 Years ago I made a commitment to Prince

I remember it taking forever to get to stores. Prince performed it on "Soul Train" and there was a music video out but you still couldn't buy the song. The album finally came out but I have never seen a single in the stores in my area. Andy is a four letter word.
