Asleep for 7 years - what have I missed?

Hey guys! This is my first post here so go easy on me!

I've been a big Prince fans since 1988-ish - bought all the albums and 12"s but kind of lost my way around 1998. I've more or less kept up with the commercially available albums but what I want to know is what have I missed?

I don't have to have everything (hey I've got a baby and therefore a tight budget) but which of these are essential:
* Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic - looks very similar to Rave Un2...
* One Nite Alone - now downloadable but The Vault book isn't enthusiastic...
* One Nite Alone Live
* The Chocolate Factory
* The Slaughterhouse
* Instrumental albums e.g. NEWS, Xpectation, C-NOTE

Thanks a lot - you lovely people! biggrin

One nite alone live got me back into Prince. The Truth from the crystal ball set is my favorite thing he's done post The Gold Experience.

Wow, about same story for me! Became a big fan in 1988, lost interest around 1996, still collecting all of his vinyl, but became a big fan again when he released the Rainbow Children. I would say that this is album you missed plus the piano album One Nite Alone. The Rainbow Children isn't hard to find in wreckastows, One Nite alone is a different story. You have to pay around $ 50,- on ebay to get copy nowadays, but it's worth all of your money.

Good luck with exploring all the music Prince has released during your 'wintersleep'!

It's now available for download at NPG. Sounds like you guys are giving it the thumbs up! Just need to track down some artwork...

Like I said, I'm a collector of vinyl (and CD's). I'm not a big fan of MP3. The sound is too lossy, the 'deep' sounds are blurry, and the 'high' sounds too crispy or too digital. But well, with music, you've got to be picky. wink

One Night Alone live (this one is essential), The Rainbow Children and NEWS are the best ones of this period IMO...not to mention the Aladdin Vegas DVD
