this is an album i have to listen to when i'm in the mood for it...i think of it as his 'joni mitchell album', and for obvious reasons. very sparse, kinda dark, very moody...usually i have to listen to the whole album or nothing at all. i like it, but i don't consider it a 'crowd pleaser' album by any means...and it doesn't have to be.

This was the last Prince album that really impressed and moved me. It's great.
It's sparse, dark, atmospheric, moody, and it just pulls you into its sound. I also think Avalanche is an absolute classic. It sounds like a dark Chopin piece, and I love the lyrics. Fascinating and poetic... Then there's the closer. My God, could this song by any more enchanting and beautiful? Arboretum is, hands down, the greatest instrumental song I've ever heard from Prince. It can almost bring tears to my eyes. When I hear ONA, I hear a man all alone at his piano in the middle of a silent night, quietly expressing his feelings of love and pain while holding onto hope. It's a mature, contemplative work. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Nice album, my favorites on it are Here On Earth, Avalanche and Arboretum but I don´t really get all the lyrics...I mean what´s up with Objects In The Mirror ?
What is the deeper significance behind those lyrics ? I know that that line is "inspired" by what you see on a car mirror and I understand the words but have difficulties in interpreting the song. A Case Of You is also nice, albeit a bit short. A friend of mine always complained about the sudden end of that song, like it´s supposed to go on for a while but gets interrupted, and then Prince played an extended, funky version of it in Berlin (ONA tour). " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

A good Prince album to play on a quiet dinner at home... "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

A great, great, great piece of Purple history. Every song on the disc has enough emotion and stick-to-your-ribs melody, to make it a favorite of mine for many years to come. The cover art is really bad though.
1. One Nite Alone-Fantastic opening line. Fantastic opening track. 2. U're Gonna C Me-I'm pretty sure P had just finished watching "Beaches" when he wrote this, still-it's better than "Wind Beneath My Wings". 3. Here On Earth-Smoooth. 4. A Case Of U-Tori Amos did this cover better, but P's piano work is top-notch. 5. Have A Heart-I'll have more of this. 6. Objects In The Mirror-"I can put my load in the dryer" Prince, you sick bastard. But cool song. 7. Avalanche-Beautifully ham-handed. 8. Pearls B4 The Swine-Unexpectedly lovable pop song. 9. Young & Beautiful-Indeed. 10. Arboretum-Wow. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
