Not attracted to him, but I love his beauty. He's gorgeous. I kind of admire it.

It's not just with Prince, though. I'm comfortable enough with my heterosexuality to admit when a guy is beautiful.

Once you're actually attracted to a guy though, you're just not straight anymore. Not that it's a bad thing, but you're not.

[Edited 10/1/05 10:47am]

You can have vague feelings of attraction toward another guy and still be straight. Attraction can run from mild to intense and its normal to have some degree of attraction toward the odd individual of your own sex. Gay men and lesbians are themselves not immune to being attracted to the occasional specimen of the opposite sex. These feelings are not explicit to us -- we're just not programmed to respond favorably to them in our normal habitat. But if ever there was a situation where we would be deprived of the companionship of the preferred gender for sufficiently long, we would perhaps look at the alternative more favorably, depending on how good we are at celibacy.

Sexual attraction often starts with more subtle emotions, like finding someone beautiful or handsome. It's not like you have to be semi-hard for it to qualify as sexual attraction. As a gay man, I've seen women I simply found beautiful and others I found beautiful and vaguely sexual. These feelings are not strong and are easy to ignore, but I think they are primitively sexual in nature. . .

Interesting Question: Brad Pitt and Prince - I think the two can be put into the same category, even though they are seemingly sexually opposite. I think the reason both are the object of sexual attraction among many straight man isn't because of their femininity, but because of their sexuality. I won't speak about Brad Pitt, but I think the same could be said of him -- but PRINCE - his sexuality is completely universal.

His lyrics and persona embody the experience of sex; not just the primal touching of genetalia, but rather, the appreciation by two people for each other's flesh, mind, persona, movements, body, and spirit all at once time - something that can be achieved only through sex. Prince (or at least how his lyrics present Prince) loves women not so much because they are women but because they are beautiful and complex. "Beauty" and "Woman" could be used interchangably by Prince. I think in all of us, man and woman is a deep attraction to that idea; to that appreciation of beauty. If you're a woman, well, of course that attraction is apparent -- you wanna sleep w/ prince. If you're a man, however, that attraction looks more like appreciation. You don't necessarily want to have sexual relations w/ prince so much as you want to be around him, experience beauty the way he does, and experience sex in the universal and complete way: something our society neglects and that many people never have.

Nice!!!

I have a friend who was str8 and only dated women, never once thought about a man. Never dreamt of doing it with a dude. Until he went to a dirty mind show in the early 80's.

He then...was convinced he should explore the other side and he swore on his life that...that was the truth.

He saw Prince in his undies on stage...and how he flaunted it...now ole boy is a booty man and has been in a monogamous relationship with his male companion for 15 years.

He told me...it was Prince who made him gay! (lol)
He doesn't even buy Prince music now...he was a hardcore fan from 78'-91'...and occassionally would buy prince singles throughout the 1990's and he actually caught the musicology show.

He Still thinks Prince is gorgeous and still loves Prince's booty -which I dubbed him a copy of "GETT OFF" from the mtv awards and he was truly in heaven.

So whether you believe it or not...here's a str8 man who was strictly into women and never wanted to be with a man...is now gay...and with a guy ever since.

- The same thing happens to me. Prince is my musical hero, but I never felt attracted by him. Sometimes, I wish I could be him, but not sleep with him. And honestly, I am glad that he is less androgynous now.

....and leave Prince outta this thread. There's no such thing as a "straight" man who likes Prince sexually (except Prince).

I think the post pertains more to the number of straight men who name Prince when pressed for an answer to the question: "If you had to switch teams just once, who would it be with?" than straight men in general. And judging from the conversations I've had, there's a lot. Most guys I know who've wandered into a discussion like that answer Prince, even if they're not fans.

BTW, Johnny Depp seems to get a lot of votes too. smile

I think men like Depp, Pitt, and of course, our wee purple hero get a lot of votes because they are (or are seen as) more feminine than is traditionally accepted for men to be, while still retaining a strong masculine element that differentiates them from the stereotypically flamey queens. They're attractive in a way that's non-threatening because they're seen as easy to dominate. The straight guy no doubt imagines he wouldn't have to worry about being on the receiving end. (Which, to be honest, if Prince was to sleep with men I suspect is probably pretty accurate)

Also, Prince is just damned pretty. Didn't Jamie Foxx have a bit about how dangerous it is to look Prince in the eye because you'd want to do the nasty with him? Called him "cute as a motherfucker". giggle

For awhile people had me thinking Prince was gay. FOr awhile I had daydreams abotu Prince jumping up on me and clenching me from behind a doing things imn my ear talkin bou t"You're mine now!".

Not that I'm attracted to him but isn't it odd that Prince is not a gay icon.Janet,Diani Ross,Cher,Madonna.....you'd think Prince would have lots of gay impersonators.

Well Im from Sydney Oz and I have a drag King friend (Female impersonating Male) who seems to mould herself on P and have witnessed quite a few Prince songs that the female to male drag seem to love... its the work and look of Prince, i suppose it's the pimp and the bitch thing that P used to have going on in his energy and look that they take on....almost like the flip side of Grace jones!
much more intresting to watch then the boring predictable impersonations of Madge and the crew

[b] AND WHY THE F*@K does a straight man finding Prince or any another male attractive have to turn into "big ole dick hanging in the front" has not Prince's Muzik told you anything, why is it that women are the only ones who are comfortable enough with their own sexuality to say that they find another woman sexually attractive without it meaning she wanna be doing some big ole lesbian with freakishly large labia, it's just that she can appreciate someone who's attractive. Most men are so not comfortable and have to make it go somewhere it didn't need to go to cover up their real feelings and remain a strong man by bringing down someone they see as easy target... such as the big ole dick hanging tranny... not cool would you do the same with skin colour or race???...maybe "some" straight men are attracted to P's sexuality because it is something they can never have free from gender restrictions and labels... we are all the same male/female/black/white/yellow-whatever we all want to be excepted and loved... don't bring someone who has enough shite on their plate down to a base level to show how strong and musculian your are.... cut me cut you both the blood is red get it?

I disagree. I'm straight and think he's very, very attractive, but it's not a sexual attraction. He's a beautiful human being, and one should be able to see that without having sexual thoughts about it.

True for you maybe, but there are a fair number of self-proclaimed straight men who don't object to the thought of getting in bed with Prince. Whether or not they have any gay or bi tendencies is something else.

Actually, I could name a few lesbians who don't mind the idea either....

Could be because even though he is masculine to a degree, he's also very femininely pretty in a way most men couldn't be if they tried.

If "easy to dominate" is a common thread in men being attracted to someone then what does it say about men? The thought is actually quite sad.

Could be.

Think of the huge market in porn for "young girls"/"teen girls"/"tied up"/"unconcious"/"little chicks"/"submissive"/ etc. What's the common theme that runs through that? Vulnerability and the ease of domination. Dominatrix themes aside, there's not exactly a huge market for dominating women -or for that matter -women who are sexual equals. So it's not really surprising IMO that men like Prince would seem attractive for the same reason.

You can be attracted by someone without having sex. I think some women are just beautiful, I can tell them, hug, but not more. Some people says P is attractive for men, some others for gays, and even more for girls (some don't, but the hooked one are seriously mad). So I say everybody think P. is attractive, and everybody speak of him too.
