emancipation. $9.99

so i went CD shopping this weekend, and i saw emancipation in the bargain bin for 9.99. i know lil' man doesn't care about sales as much as he used to, but this made me sad ... it's like stores are eager to get rid of his albums. it's just weird to me that "purple rain" costs more than "emancipation" in most places.

also, it seems to me that emancipation doesn't get that much respect. i'll be honest and say that i don't listen to it that much ... "rainbow children" still has a hold on my CD player. anyone else find themselves ignoring the 3-CD opus??

Emancipation being $9.99 is very old news. It was marked down over a year ago. As far as what it costs compared to Purple Rain (what does the price have to do with anything?), Prince made several times more on Emancipation than he made on Purple Rain. For counting dollars, Which one makes the most sense for the artist?

And Emancipation has been universally recognized as one of the best Prince albums ever - whether the less informed "fans" still listen to it or not..yeah, I said it...

...cause FACE said so!!!

I mostly listen to my b-sides, but if I have the urge, I will never deny this CD. It's a classic fine piece in my book. Everytime I listen to it I'm touched. And I love "White Mansion"... biggrin

i just think it's ironic, that's all. i mean, it's obvious that emancipation is a better album than most of his albums, which makes it all the more weird that it's so cheap. so many non-"fans" are missing the boat on that one. i know a dude who calls himself a "fan" but won't pick up emancipation to save his life. it doesn't make any sense ...

i saw it a couple of months back at barnes and noble for $6.99. i scooped it up to "save face", so to speak, you know, so other people wouldn't see emancipation for $6.99 and start talking about "prince has hit the bargain bins!" lol

Your argument is that Prince made more from Emancipation vs. Purple Rain?

If you're just counting dollars received from the "album", then you might be right.

But if you look at what he actually received from Purple Rain (worldwide superstardom, Paisley Park, #1 hits, non-stop radio play for a year or so . . .) then that's different!!

In NYC, it's only $7.99! And it has been since about 1997.

Hear what freedom sounds like - at 1/3 the original price!

It crazy. Last year a supermarket near us had the Emancipation cassette set at £1.49 and a single album by Jane McDonald for £1.99.
Jane McDonald is a brassy, English tart who should be punished for offending my ear drums.
I felt like asking to see the manager so I could kick his arse.
