2006 Predictions For Prince

Does anyone want to speculate what the new year will bring us? Do u think Prince will release a CD? What style will it be, commercial, non-commercial? Do U think he will tour with it in arenas or theatres? Let's dream and hope for an exciting new year with Prince.

prince will do something that some people will complain about, and he will release music that some people won't like.

I like this idea for a thread.

I'm guessing he'll release a CD in mainstream stores, which will be pop/rock recorded with a real band - different enough from his back catalogue that some will love it, and some will hate it. It won't be a big hit, but will be noticed by the music-going public. It will have at least one cringe-worthy weak song boasting about how Prince's parties are better than anyone else's, and at least one seduction ballad which mentions marriage to cover his butt. The first single will be a ballad, and won't get played on the radio.

I think he'll tour in theaters like on the ONA tour - he'll start by doing almost-exclusively new material and Sly & The Family Stone covers, but as the tour progresses he'll start including lesser-known songs from his back-catalogue, then tease the audience with snippets of Purple Rain - by the end of the tour, only a few new songs will be played, and it will be mostly a hits tour. He won't come to Boston.

NPGMC will have an exclusive album at some point (perhaps remixes/originals of the commercially-available CD), and some live tracks. This will be followed a week later by a couple of unheard studio tracks, leading us all to think that the NPGMC will be bringing out new music on a regular basis - then we will not get anything else (other than live tracks from TV appearances) for 6 months or so.

We will get some vault material released at some point in 2006 - perhaps only a 40-minute CD, though. Maybe Tales From An Electric Sun. Moonbeam Levels will not be on the CD. Neither will Electric Intercourse.

A live DVD will be released at some point. This might be the Musicology LA show, or not. It will not have any bonus features.

Bootleggers will 'remaster' the same old unreleased stuff.

Uptown will bring out The Vault 2006 - enough stuff will be happening at the time that it will already be a little out-of-date. Most will love it, but people will point out the errors (legitimately), and complain that it doesn't have a wealth of new information about Prince's recording history. There will be a couple of 'new' vault tracks mentioned from 1982-1988, and people will drool, and say "Prince must release this now or I will die!"

Lost will continue with more mysteries about the hatch, the island and the Others. Alias, sadly, will have ended with a disappointing 5th season.

All in all, not a bad year. A tour, a new album, some downloads, a vault album and a DVD. Some will be happy, some won't. Personally, I'd rather be one of the happy ones.

One of the funniest and most accurate posts I´ve read in a long time !
What´s the story with Prince not coming to Boston ? Are you serious ? What´s the background ?

Lost is addictive .

Spot on.

It will only be half the show, of course, because who needs to see an entire concert?
