The extended version? I think I like it better than the original. His little rap is cool.

Yes, this song is also one of my favorites and I usually want to cry that Prince doesn't make anything like this song any more. The lyrics are amzaing and the faster (non-album) version is mind-blowing!!!!

Does anyone remember the stripped down version of "Get Off" that was first released to radio. I remember hearing it at the radio station in Chicago when Tom Joyner was still on the airwaves there (WGCI). I can't seem to find this version anywhere (The drums are more straight forward, the sound effects and vocals are very minimal)...Help a brother out...Does it have a name?

That's called the "damn near 10 minutes" version - it was ONLY released to radio and clubs - I found a nice mp3 of it on ****.

Aside from that, I hate the LP version of Gett Off. The edits are horrible, and the song is butchered. I like the 12" version the best, and the 7" mix, if you want a short one, works much better than the LP edit.
Keep your headphones on.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention.

The far superior song with the Gett Off music is Violet the Organ Grinder.

That song is incredible! And so is the video.

It's nothing hip hop about the song. The guitar riff is the basis of this song. This is the last song that I heard from P that really came from the "dark" P that I always dug. "Gett Off" is some street thug pimp "don't think I can't whoop your ass cuz I'm short" Prince. It's raw, rock, funky and dark. Like most of the material from the "Black Album". It could have fit on that like a glove. To me, that's the "real" P.

If he had stuck with that formula,

Diamonds & Pearls would've been a bad album..

I would say Gett Off is hip hop Prince. The same for 18 & Over, the Shock G remix 4 Love Sign, The Max, The Flow and a few others. Prince ventures into alot different forums and this would b his hip hop. Remember Monie Love and Prince's In A Word Or 2 and Carmen Electra first CD, The NPG's Gold Nigga and TC Ellis. If Prince used Tupac or Scarface and not that ass lame Tony M, Gett Off would be considered a hip hop jam!
