Inside Prince's mind. What if you could take a ride inside Prince's mind. You know, make it a ride at Universal Studios. I don't know just what it would be like, but it would be one hell of a trip.
I mean, try deciphering one of Prince's songs-1999. I was dreaming when I rwote this,so excuse me if it goes astray. How can you write in your dreams? When I woke up this morning could have sworn it was Judgement Day. Crazy people are always talkin bout the end of the world Sky was all Purple there were people running everywhere. WHen oh when have you ever known the sky t become Purple. And what's his axfixiation on Purple? Tryin to run from my destruction, you know I didn't even care/ Now, I know you would be running from destruction but why wouldn't you care about it? I mean if I was running I'd care tha I was runninge Working up a purple sweat. | |

The dream doesn't necessarily have to mean sleep. It could mean that Prince was in an artistic zone of poetic dreaming when he wrote it. A place of inspiration.
The theme of 1999 is the world ending. Given the constant chaotic state of things, it's anything but crazy. The sky being purple is a reference to the world ending. Blue and red make purple, and the "red" in the sky in this case is blood. When he says that he was running but didn't even care, it could be a statement about apathy. Use an open mind when hearing a Prince song. He is a poet. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

This is just my take on this... he may not of really and truly been dreaming..
Perhaps it was his form of poetic metaphors in explaining something but that's just my take on it. | |
