Prince's new album.

Hi everybody, i've been a lurker for years and for the first time since the early 90's i'm excited about what he's going to do next.

No mention of larry Graham or jehova lately.

But, with Vanity 6 video being uploaded to the NPGMC and the Mazerati song in the GlamSlam this weekend, i suddenly thought that this might be a hint at whats coming our way.

i've often thought that there is so much that he still has to do as an artist and it's a shame that there has been so little output from him recently. Musicology was good but, almost a pastiche of himself, revisiting known ground.

There is so much i hear that i think " prince did that back in 92 or 87 or 79 etc. Like Kanye's Golddigga. There is so much about that song that reminds me of Come. (licks , loops, bass, brass, etc)

God he must be itching to do something hot and nasty. Good music that u can dance to in a club.

Hope i haven't rambled on too long.

Let me know what u think?

I just hope he hasn't got to the stage, where alot of 'older' singers get, where they just release safe music that is just ok, and damn rite boring.

U know listening to his older stuff, prince was prince, making his 'own' type of music, sounding his 'own' little way, now he just sounds like his childhood idols, and not being that orginal at all...

...tho still i have a lot of faith and enjoyment from this man, that is why i am here, and Am gonna stay a fan till i die!

Damn right! He used to innovate and i know he's still got it. I honestly think that there are 2 reasons for whats happened.

Firstly getting involved with Mayte was a bad move. She was a Golddigga and the baby thing must have been a headfuck and took it's toll

Secondly he started to known more for the sex stuff more than the music ( sexy mf,etc)and i think thats why he vered away from fame/pop and moved into jazz which is more musically respectable and grown up. I think getting to 40 and being known as that pervy guy that sings about sex was not how he wanted to be remembered

I really think News, Musicology and all those internet releases were about showing his critics that he is a great and serious musician. really.

Well he would need to stop all the really sex'ed up songs, as he is 46 and wants to be taken seriously, but if U fink about it, jazz and funk is gonna of a safe genre to go into, look at JB he done it for how many years?
Maybe prince just wants to do that, and he has always made the kind of music HE wants!

I really don't think we're gonna be treated to a batch of songs about dating a shemale, or getting fucked by a sex aid, no matter how much I wish it were true.

I think the next LP will be better than Musicology though. Let's just wait and see. smile

The lyrics to 'SST' were very JW related in places.

Then, you have new songs like 'Glasscutter' ... .

I don't think Larry Graham is a concern at all. It is the choices Prince makes in regard to his own faith that will have impact on the music.

I'm always excited about any new Prince release, but I must admit, I do not see any hint of anything 'extraordinary' at the moment. This is a very quiet period.

I just hope for more energy and a return to the more ecclectic sound biggrin
Gimme some Latin percussion, rock guitars, funky basslines, sexy/ fun lyics and futuristic synths, and I might melt from a joy overload.
If you will, so will I

My #1 desire for the next Prince album is for it to be something I can dance to. I need at least one song from him that will make me drop it like it's hot at the clubs. Besides, the songs everyone knows are the dance songs, 1999, When Doves Cry, Kiss. I know he has it in him to make us dance again. I also think that this next album is going to be better than anything he's done in the past couple of years.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
