10th Anniversary of the release of The Gold Experience

Hard to believe it's been 10 years.

This was the album that put my faith back in Prince, after having to deal with all the name change bullshit. I remember picking it up on the release day at a Blockbuster Music in Palm Desert, CA. But, stupid me, I bought it right before I had to go into work. And the Blockbuster was literally five minutes from my job. Holy Hell, that was the longest 3 hours of my life. I went out to my car and listened to it during my lunch break.

I remember being ecstatic after listening to it and just feeling proud to be a fan again.

Great album. His best of the '90s, for sure, or at least IMO.

My God 10 years! It doesn't seem like it's been that long. I remember listening to it at a record store in Midtown Manhattan after school. I was like wow but my Mom would let me get secular music at that time. I got it after I graduated High School a couple of years later and I was able to really listen to it. Man it kicked my ass hard. It is his best album of the 90's and it should have been his biggest album of the decade. Oh well, it was the biggest for me.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

'95 wasn't just awesome because of Gold, but also because of Exodus. I remember having a great summer with Exodus and then having a great fall/winter because of TGE.

I hear you, I loved those two albums. I'm sure I bought my Exodus tape (I have the CD nowadays) from the old NPG store in Camden Town (along with some 'Delirious' incense oil incidentally). They also used to do a fantastic BLT sandwich in the "Starfish and Coffee" cafe upstairs.

I guess bacon's off the menu at P's place these days huh?!!

Good lord 10 years!

I remember buying it in the local shopping centre (the square - for those of you Irish), then going to a coffee shop and just sitting there for about a hour reading and re-reading the liner notes and lyrics (trying to imagine what the songs i didn't know would sound like!)

Then I went home to put it on while i got ready to head out to a party.

I never went to the party.
I can't sing, but I got soul

This album is still my absolute favourite of his, and my favourite album of all time. Boots of this album is what got me into Prince in the first place, being only a casual fan before that. It's also still the album that I listened to most often by far.

On a more serious note, i was kinda disappointed when "Gold" was released cuz i already knew ALL the songs. It had been the same with "Come" but 4 "Solo" & "Letitgo".

Bootlegs & the Beautiful Experience had been destroying all the surprise. I'm happy now that it doesn't happen anymore, i like discovering a whole new album.

That doesn't mean that i don't LOVE these 2 albums & listened 2 them hundred of times, i just wished i had discovered them the day they were released.

TGE was the Best P since the Batman Soundtrack, i thought he was back. Everything in between and after those albums i've liked maybe 4 or 5 songs on each.I still haven't lost hope, i don't think i ever could. Long live the Prince.
