He is singing and playing better guitar than ever, he has the best drummer he ever had, besides he had a "big" year in 2004, grammy, rock n roll hall of fame, sucessfull tour, and sucessful album. So his pockets are full of money and he does not need next album to be a hit. So, it's not a good time to give up on him.

Nice. Very nice. Well-written and stated.

I usually don't answer threads not related to the musical aspects of Prince's career (meaning technical aspects), but allow me to say this:

Prince has reached his peaked as far as innovative pop, funk, soul, etc. goes but, he is still a great, great talent. Someone hit it on the head earlier by saying that his live shows are actually stronger than ever -- this much I agree. If you think you are going to get another PR, DM, 1999, P, or SOTT, -- don't hold your breath. It is not going to happen most likely, but remember this . . . when you see him live, you will get to hear those classic gems better than before. For me it goes like this: Michael J. is not as great (no where near it), but I still respect his legend and catalog. Paul M.'s songwriting and melodies will never match what he did with the Beatles, but he is still going strong. Stevie W., Stevie Nicks, Elton John, George Michael, Aretha Franklin -- you name them; they all have ho-hum current recordings, but they are all nevertheless, very, very talented. I wouldn't miss any of them live. So with that stated: Pump your late 70s and 80s Prince music, watch the old videos, discuss his musical talents, and sit back and enjoy the show when it comes to your town.

You've hit a home run with this one, dog...The bottom line is P reached his peak as a "recording artist"...He won't be the first and he won't be the last...Seriously, I think some of the Prince fans on this site don't listen to any other forms of music or artists...I dug the Musicology Show because I wanted to see the man in action and he put on a kick ass show!; But in no way am I expecting to hear P in his artistic prime on the Musicology album (ie Purple Rain, Parade, Sign); For God sakes, he's been making music for more than 25 years...Trust me, there are other contemporary artists out there doing their thing...Hell, there's a wealth of past musical statements to check out...Trust me, you'll be doing yourself a favor...And the best part about it, you can still hold on to the memories and greatness associated with our boy Prince...

I think maybe it's because he's been too controlling and lived in isolation too long. The man is a genius and has forgotten more about music than i will ever learn, but, no-one knows everything. I think he should on occasion lend his ear to other artistes opinons. I'm not talking about the current batch of disposable r n b crowd, he's made that music, and for too long. It's time for him to move on to something else. Maybe hook up with a decent producer. I'm sure people like Flood, William Orbit, Trent Reznor, Bob Rock could all breathe desperately needed new life into his music. My fear is that Prince would either be too proud or pig-headed to listen to someone else. Whether we loved or hated the results it would certainly be such a move that I'm sure we'd all pay full attention.

I agree. Consider for instance that Me'shell offered to become his bass player only two years ago, and the guy does not give her a call...

Why do people think Prince HAS to do anything? Only he knows where he gets his creations from. I realize he wants to make money too, but he could sell a multitude of things from unreleased songs to concert dvd's to do that. His music ,I think, will always come from whatever spirit moves him at the time and you can accept it and enjoy it for what he has given us or not.

He has made so many beautiful songs. I just think he should just sit back and enjoy his life now. I mean he's probably still making music now... but... he has done his thing. If he is doing another album cool... Imma be one of the first ones to buy it. But... Prince is the man and will always be the man. He has done a lot. Thats what I admire about him. Ain't nobody like him.

I gave up on him years ago and I'm doing just fine.

Personally I like the raw guitar sound much better than the polished one. That's just not his niche. No matter what Prince thinks, he can't produce that squeeky clean sound like Santana because he simply doesn't have the skills. He should just stick to his own sound.

uh, excuse you...

did you SEE Andre Benjamin make a LAME ASS attempt at "playing guitar" at the 2004 MTV VMAs last year??? If you did, you wouldn't be asking that dumb ass question you just asked....yeah TLB was awesome, but know this...there is a REASON why Dre (as much as I love him) said he wasn't going to tour for it...

BECAUSE HE KNEW HE COULDN'T SING NOR PLAY ANY OF THOSE SONGS LIVE!!!!!

Prince, on the other hand, could not only play the SHIT out of "She lives in my Lap" live...he's already written a song MUCH LIKE IT...TWENTY YEARS PRIOR...wanna take a guess what it is? Go on...guess.

so don't go there with the The Love Below comparisons...as far as I'm concerned, TLB was a Prince tribute album, and you KNOW IT

How exactly to you give up being a fan? Do you throw all his stuff in the bin and cry for a week?

No. You actually have to do more than that, like the fam who got mad at Prince for the nose job joke at the LA Musicology kickoff and went on NPGMC and made her rant about how she's is resigning from the club and from being a fam--signing with her full name, address & everything. That was almost as entertaining as the show in itself.

Right and Wrong. I think You are right about P's raw guitar playing being better than his polished sound. Prince has a wide range of styles, sounds and skills that no one can match, not even Santana.

I've been saying the same thing with each new album since "Around The World In A Day". Then I listen to the new album again and songs start to grow on me. In the mid to late 1980s, with a string of one artsty/fartsy type album after another, I realized the fact that Prince is never going to put out a "great" album again. He's only going to put out either "good" or "decent" ones.

After each album, I always say "Dammitt, I mean it, I'm through with him this time", then I start to like the album. lol However, I almost kept my word after the "Parade", "New Power Soul" and "The Truth" albums.

I bought my "Crystal Ball" album from the record store so "Kamasutra" wasn't included in that set. A friend of mine made me a copy of it though and when I heard it, I was glad I had not wasted my money on it.

People have been saying it's his 'last chance' since 1990.

15 years later and he's just had one of his most successful tours ever.

The 'Musicology' CD still sold well excluding concert sales.

It might be his 'last chance' for you personally, but in general, I think not.

Still, I think you'd still be curious to hear if there are any new gems ... . Prince has that kind of wild, unpredictable talent.

I always bought every album He released, but there was a time
-around C&D- when I didn't listen that much 2 his music.
In the clubs and bars they played grunge and later on
the R&B hype happened and I really liked some of
that stuff.
After Emancipation I lost my intrest in Prince, didn't
like NPS.Rave... was a bit better.
I regainded a lot of my intrest by connecting to the internet
3 years ago,discouvering a lot of bootlegs(80's & 90's stuff)
live recordings and...the org.
Shortly after Musicology came out and this wonderfull year
4 Prince happened.

It's also a fact that besides the org,I never could talk about P and his music 2
anyone...

Thanks for your opinion. You may already ask your .org account to be deleted via email. I wish you all the happiness with the rest of your life.

In the mean time I strongly suggest you'd listen to the music released on the Swedish Death Industrial label Cold Meat Industry if you don't want to listen to pop music. A link to its site can be found on my signature.

Decades ago.. you loved his music because there wasn't anything coming out that came even close to being as good as his sound.

But now or in the last 6 years it doesn't matter if he puts out a boring album or two like Musicology, theres much much more exciting music out there.
