Endorphine Machine!!!!

Man, That Song ROCKS! I've never listened to the whole Gold album before a friend burned a copy for me, That's when I came across that song. Prince just kills it with the Rhythm Guitar. That Primal Scream reminds me of the one at the end of "Computer Blue" If you play it at a high volume, You'll blow your ear drums out. If Prince ever decides to do a Rock oriented cd. I hope he makes more tracks like that one.

Yes it does.

It's about vaginas.

When he says "frontin' more booty than Peru got keys", he means "she gives away more ass." which translates to "she throws her vagina about frivelously".

It's definately about vaginas.

love that song! thumbs up!

The unreleased version is much better. No bullshit effects on that one.

It's not the presence of the sound effects or the cowbell on the released
version that bothers me, it's the way the raw rock guitar riff is buried
under too much keyboard. For me, that's the reason why the original
mix is better.

Totally.

I think too many people allow themselves to be distracted by the "cowbell effect" whilst the real weakness of the released version of "Endorphinmachine" remains largely undiscussed biggrin

Exactly. I remember seeing him perform Endorphinmachine live on several
occasions complete with cowbell and sound effects, and it totally rocked!
And the reason it rocked was because the guitar was cranked up, raw and
LOUD. It's a pure rock riff track, and the cowbell actually works really
well (as does the siren effect). Having all the layered up keyboards on
the album version diluted the power of the guitar riff. THIS is why the
original mix is better. Now if Prince had just added the sound effects
and cowbell to the original mix, without adding the extra keyboards, I
think it would've been great!

Yeah, this is one of the times I'm thinking... "What was Prince thinking???" when he added those keyboards.

Why turn one of the coolest guitar riffs ever into this guitary...keyboardy mess.... mad

Good point Boris. When I first heard the song, I wondered how it would sound if he used a lead guitar to play the keyboard part. And I too like the cowbell. I wonder how many cats in the audience were playing air-guitar with him when he played that one at the concert?

My favourite one from "The Gold Experience"! smile

I really like the released version! smile (but you are right: it need louder guitar sound and less keyboard)

I already had a live version of "Endorphinmachine" (from a 1993 aftershow) a year before "The Gold Experience" was ever released and I thought "I'd kill to get the studio version of this kick-ass song"... Well, I wasn't disappointed at all when it was officially released! cool
