Wow, great points.

You're right. Even though albums like 1999 carried an important message, they had a great sense of fun and charm.

we know prince had such a lion. the interessting thing about the man is that his pocket contains other things today, and his art represents that.

falloff this is funny as hell.....no offense

It's less energetic and less fun than his masterpieces in the 80's. But in my view it's a more mature masterpiece on it's own. I love almost all song, th eonly song that it's too long and kkinda boring for me is The Rainbow Children, but towards the ends it gets better. I even like the work. And for me Family Name, The Last December, She loves me 4 me, Digital Garden, are among his best songs ever. And still there are very enjoyable tracks, ike Everywhere with that great rythm, a pretty instrumental with sensual everafter, two tight funk grooves, and so on. Last December rock the house too. It's among my favorite Prince albums ever.

the odd thing about the darth vader voice is that after several listen's it starts to grow on you. like any other prince thing tends to do. listen to darth vader in 1+1+1=3. he be phunky!!!!! "repeat after me...."

whats wrong with father darth anyway? sounds quite like the bob george voice to me. deeeeep.....

HOW CAN A STUPID VOICE RUIN AN ALBUM?

it is just a fucking voice. People like to whinny so much, even about the cowbells in endorphinemachine. I say, this is too much ramones in their record collection. People are punk dude, they only want gutiar drums and bass. No horns. nor orchestras and no special effects.

"...true, but, then again, who could, without sounding immature, somewhere in the midst of their fourties, just skip the depth of an aged insight, and keep singin the same song over and over about fun and charmin topics like having a lion in your pocket that's ready to roar. we know prince had such a lion. the interessting thing about the man is that his pocket contains other things today, and his art represents that..."

I am not saying that I NEED Prince to sound like he did in the past (Dirty Mind, etc.) Prince has previously covered meaningful topics, but in a fun way that didn't get tied down by the message. Musicology was a fun album, yet Prince interjected serious themes (Cinnamon Girl, Dear Mr Man) without stifling the good time that the "Musicology" album presents. "The Rainbow children" could have been more fun and kept it's message.
"New Power slide...."

you got a problem with the ramones?

i don't mind horns, orchestras or anything else. check out my music collection if you don't believe me. i just think the voice spoils the flow of the album. can't i be allowed that opinion?

i think part of it is that the voice makes it impossible for me to use tracks from this album when i burn prince compilations for myself, and when i listen to my mp3 player on shuffle, tracks from TRC always sound chopped up because the of the narration. i hate that. it's a pet peeve. and since the live versions on ONA Live sound so much, uh, livelier, i don't really listen to the studio versions that much.

I think TRC is just plain boring. It all sounds like it was created intellectually while working in the studio, rather than something done out of heartfelt feelings and a creative need. biggrin

It's only because most prince fans here are Purple Rain oriented, and wanna a pop rock album, or a straight funk album. They wont go beyond it.

I can enjoy some of the funk sounds on TRC but it isn't as cohesive as other albums. There's conflicting lyrics and insights IMO. If it's only the music playing then most of it is super fine, but try to include the mixed messages and it turns to static.

Have you read my paper about TRC? I've put a lot of serious thought into finding an interpretation of it. It's actually a repetition of and conclusion to major themes that have been present from the beginning of his career.

You can throw out as many insults as you like Heiress, it says way more about who you really are than about who I am.
Please explain what jail bait has to do with God and the Rainbow children using little words then. Thank you in advance for any explination.

I was responding to this thread to discuss TRC, not your paper. I am not concerned with your personal views except for how jail bait relates to God and The Rainbow Children on this thread.

Anyone can state their views but that doesn't mean they are right. confused Even you Heiress.
