Purple Rain, if I absolutely had to choose. ---------

Anybody??? 8) I haven't even heard the demo! or any other rare unreleased tracks, for that matter... ---------

For those few people out there that equate listening to "Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em" to an almost spiritual experience- God bless 'em! I don't understand them myself, but more power to them!
That's why I usually hesitate to just bash somebody's favorite music, because I know how meaningful a song can be to somebody. I have my bad days though, and sometimes I can spread venom like anyone else. Here, here! This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I still listen to that Milli Vanilli record sometimes. I still have my Paula Abdul. I love Kylie Minogue. I'm an avid Roxette fan. My favorite used to be Richard Marx. Does it make my taste bad? Perhaps. But it's still mine.

The horror! Maybe we should get a thread going about guilty pleasure type of songs going. I'll confess too. I promise. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

I still occasionally play my Paula Abdul- Spellbound album. And I still enjoy it...

Is there meant to be something wrong with Richard Marx & Paula Abdul?

I'd choose 1999 because it comes across as more unedited. I enjoy those 7-8 minute Prince songs. Purple Rain is obviously an excellent album and I don't think one should hold it's commerical success against it...especially when it's a new sound that crosses over into mainstream music.
Personally, I'll pass on Let's Go Crazy, I Would Die For You and Baby I'm A Star. The rest of the songs I love!

Purple Rain wins easily, every song on Purple Rain is a solid 10 out of 10. Where as 1999 only has a handfull of 10 out of 10's.

I wish he would have put the Lets Go Crazy ext. version on there instead of the edited one.

This is turning out to be an interesting take on taste! Personally, virtually every song on 1999 is a 10 for me, whereas Purple Rain has its fair share of 8s and 9s.

both albums get 10s from me.

It is so unfair both are essential for Prince And for my reason to be a fan (as more albums are). But if one has to choose (when it really must) ,i'd choose 1999. And this album was not my introduction with this man(purple rain was). I would be certain in this choice but forever regret it.
