having read the thread on SOTT being an overrated album and the following discussions on the differencies and simularities of SOTT and TRC and whether on or the other is Prince's actual masterpiece, I have to bring 1999 to people's attention. 1999 could very well be Prince's masterpiece. i hear it just as powerful, diverse and thrilling as the two above mentioned, and the song, 1999, is so much about what prince was, is and (hopefully) always will be about - party, sex and love no matter what hurricane, new disease, a-bomb or rocketship explodes. it is the true spirit of a man believing in HUMAN values that rocks the boat on that one! Songs like international lover with its adorable vocal work (oh my god..), the rawness of Lady cab driver (scary), the futuristicly and freaky sounding automatic and all the critics love u in ny are just examples of this classic prince album that will never run out of date. actually i think that the hole 1999 album sounds fresher than many of the songs on the highly (by many) appreciated SOTT album (IT, play in the sunshine, U got the look)....
after all its personal, I know, but this would be my opinion then.

ADORE might be Prince's best song ever, but 1999 might be Princes best collections of songs ever...


so SOTT, TRC and 1999 - the latter wins!
thoughts?

he's just recorded some very strong and cohesive albums
the last 25 years. i think it's a bit weird that people
would pick just one album by an artist as the ultimate
masterpiece.

especially with Prince, the man did so many styles and
went through so many changes that there are definitely
some highlights, but I wouldn't want to be the one to
have to pick the best from

Is My most Favorite all time Prince albums. I just love it. 1999 is an irreplaceable classic. It is a great party record, I could just dance to anything on it.

I love 1999 ..... but i cant choose his best ,& i still wouldnt put TRC in a top 10.
