Girl 6 Apprecation Thread

I just can't believe all the things people say...about this album. Everyone gives it the thumbs down. But I just got and it's jamming hard. Every song on this album rocks. I just can't imagine why someone wouldn't like it. It's awesome. Every song. And it's got a great mix of old and new school(circa 96) Prince on there. Also, the two songs by Vanity 6 and the Family equal Prince's tracks in coolness. I just think it's time that this album got the appreciation it deserved
Don't hurt me, I'm a newb. I'm supposed to be stupid.

I also like it.
Tho I have most of the songs on other CD's, I listen to this one alot cuz I can listen to "Girls & Boys", "Don't Talk To Strangers" and all the songs in between all back-2-back on one CD.

You know what? Girl 6 has the same thing in common with Graffiti Bridge. Great soundtrack, HORRIBLE movie. G6 is Spike Lee's worst movie yet.

I really can't see how most fans could not like this album? confuse

Most of the tracks are from (or are b-sides to tracks from) "classic" albums

1 She Spoke 2 Me -- Prince 4:19
2 Pink Cashmere -- Prince 6:15
3 Count the Days -- New Power Generation 3:26
4 Girls and Boys -- Prince, Revolution 5:31
5 The Screams of Passion -- Family 5:27
6 Nasty Girl -- Vanity Six 5:14
7 Erotic City -- Prince, Revolution 3:55
8 Hot Thing -- Prince 5:41
9 Adore -- Prince 5:31
10 The Cross -- Prince 4:46
11 How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore? -- Prince 3:53
12 Don't Talk 2 Strangers -- Prince 3:11
13 Girl 6

and aside from the title song most of the new tracks are generally well recieved as well.
I really like this little compilation if for "Don't Talk 2 Strangers" alone
If you will, so will I

P shoulda did a whole new set of tunes for Girl 6. For a genius, he took the easy way out.

I love this soundtrack. One thing no one mentions is that these are the few Prince tracks that have been remastered or just sound louder than the albums they're on. So if I want to hear a Adore or Hot Thing, I pop this on because of the quality. Plus, it's got Nasty Girl and Screams of Passion on there. You can't fuck with that!
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

than the original album tracks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Lee (being a fan) choose most of the tracks himself and then ask Prince for permisiion to use them in the film? Prince then also granted some rarer access and contributed a song too. I thought that was how it went?

Erm, Boris? biggrin

That coulda been it. I just wish P woulda said "Look, 4 eyes! I wanna drop some new material for the fans and that's what I'm gonna do, half pint!" biggrin

I think that I don't care for this cd because I didn't like the project. I think it was a poor use of the music.

It's like Spike Lee thought... "I'm gonna make a movie and because I dig Prince, I'm gonna use his music as a soundtrack. Hmmm what songs do I dig? Okay..this one kinda fits...and this one...screw it...I just like these."

Hmmmm idea for a thread. smile

TGE came out the end of 95, and 96 also ha C&D and Emancipation. Fans were happy back then.

C'mon, dawg, don't act like P had written ALL of that shit in 1 calender year. P pulled shit for C&D and TGE and Emancipation from his vault(s), so he coulda EASILY worte new shit for Girl 6.

Yeah, but I think what Doctamario meant was that we had enough (high-quality!) new material going on at the time that we weren't desparate for new material in the way that many fans are now.

C&D was FAR from HIGH QUALITY, trust me. C&D is his WORST album ever and TGE wasn't top notch either.

haven't heard all of C&D, but from what I have heard, it's got some nice bluesy and rocky sounds to it. Looks really neat IMO. Anyway, that's a different subject.

Its a good album if you want to listen to some nicely chosen b-sides. I put on the other day and realised how good it was. Well chosen Spike Lee.

TGE was adequate with TMBGITW, Eye Hate U, Billy Jack Bitch and that's about it.

319 was adequate, Gold sounded like some soundtrack cut and Dolphin was just plain dumb.
