no no no! it has to make less sense than that! giggle but no matter whatever comes up, the effect it'll have on the fanbase will be the same:

"this sucks ass! purple rain 2, please." rolleyes
"it's okay." hmm
"omg liek this is the best thing he's ever done, EVERRRRR!!!!111!!" nuts

an 'then, an' then 6 months later:

I would love Prince to surprise us in the same way he did with the Rainbow Children.

I can understand not everybody likes the songs on this album - most of us hate the Darth Vader segues - but the album was daring and sounded SUPER-FRESH!

Maybe it didn't have any potential radio hits, but it had instant fan favorites (The Everlasting Now!).

It was dark, edgy

It was pure Prince!

I hope Prince hits us with something like that again! SOmething really artistic, hopefully multi-disc and all-live instruments!

I have to say I agree with PurpleKnight. I tried, I really tried to like SST, with no success. Kind of made me cringe listening to it. Was a nice gesture though.

Still, I'll buy whatever he comes out with.

I would like futuristic funk with top notch production that breaks into the best four rock songs he's ever written followed by more great funk songs and maybe a light-your-lighter moment here and there... plus a side of outtakes on a separate disc and a diet coke with a straw.

Could Prince be sued by promoting these disfunctional brain waves because of the absense of new music?

I must have missed something - aside from Prince shooting a video in Spain
what other reports have given an indication of a spanish influence?

Forgive me for not knowing but I have no idea what SST or the other abbreviation used somewhere in this thread means.

If im honest the 'older' fans aren't really gonna love most of his new product that he brings out anyway, because he isn't the same old prince we all know, the music back then was so much more, now it all just sounds the same, but for new fans anything new is great...hard time for prince and other musicians!
[Edited 9/18/05 15:56pm]

I can't stand when this weak defense of Prince's new music inevitably gets regurgitated.

Most fans here who complain about Prince's new music do not want a sequel to the sounds he used on Purple Rain or 1999.

What they want is that same inspiration that made those albums brilliant.

That's what I and many others long for. Not necessarily the Prince who sang about cumming on his girl's wedding dress or a girl masturbating to a magazine, but simply the Prince who demanded that every album be great and important.

It's true though; when the new album drops, there will be tons of people saying it's his best work in ten years.

Then when a few months pass, we'll likely just be begging for the next album and laying down our unrealistic demands yet again.

I knew you'd respond. He/She was describing you to the tee. lol

You missed the album you just described. It was TRC. Like it or not it was a very important album in his catalogue. It's the only one that shows us what Prince is capable of at this stage of his career when he's inspired. The only problem is a lot of folks couldn't handle it. Due to the tone and content of the album that's understandable but don't act like he hasn't put out a quality album since the mid 80's. You just didn't like it.

Now, NEWS and Musicology are totally different beasts altogether. So I'm definitely not saying Prince is as inspired as he was when he was young. Inspiration doesn't come as easy as we age. Prince is certainly no exception.

Quality, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. If TRC shows us what Prince is capable of when he's inspired at this stage of his career, then unfortunately - from my point of beholding - that's not much. sigh

Thankfully there were tracks on the Chocolate Invasion and Slaughterhouse compilations that were more to my liking, and I think the Paradigm track he did with George Clinton is one of his most inspired in ages. It's very funky. biggrin

So there's still hope for more great tracks from Prince. They just weren't on TRC or Musicology. sad

As for an entire album of great songs, I've resigned myself to the fact that Prince won't make any more, because he hasn't made one in more than ten years now. Even Aerosmith's drug period was shorter before they returned with a vengeance. But a good Prince track now and again is alright. biggrin

I hope u arent saying theres only 9 good tunes post 2000?

I always say 1 (or 2) great Prince tracks is still better than a whole CD of someone else.
