Though the Apollo audience can be quite ruthless in expressing their displeasure, they do respect talent. That being said, Prince may have been booed at first, but I think it's safe assume he could have won the Apollo crowd over.

You know what C.T? I can list about 10 professional acts on the charts right now who would be ran off the stage at the Apollo. If Prince wore the outfit that he wore during his induction to the R&R Hall of Fame, Sat at a Baby Grand Piano and sang "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore?" He'd probably get a warm welcome. However, If he did "My Name Is Prince" The hook would come and Sandman Sims would rise from his grave and start dancing.
