I can believe the man has a dark side, cheated on women while being possessive in the same time, took ecstasy once with Ingrid, drank 2 much wine sometimes, behaved like a paranoid sucker with people who loved him, took musical ideas from others without crediting them, etc... but THIS goes against everything Prince ever said or anything i read in "DMSR" or Liz Allen's book.

Well, I hadn't read much about Prince before Possessed so I found it pretty useful. The negative aspects didn't bug me so much 'cause I happen to believe most of it. If you are inclined to be less tolerant of anything bad about Prince it's probably not the book for you.

I read the book and generally its a less than rosy portrayal of Prince. He is critical of the man and his later work, but does praise his material up to sign. Despite the fact it divides his career into Rise and Fall, its a product of its time. Its Pre one nite alone and musicology, both tours, records that have arrested this decline.
Alex is probably a person who became disenchanted with Prince, like a lot of us during the Symbol period.

What I like.
1. Generally accurate coverage of his career and life.
2. Appears hes listened to most albums.
3. Good repository of facts.
4. Accurate.

What I don't like
5. Writing it in a epitaph style, like P has artistically died
6. Drug allegations (all crap)
7. Alcoholism (yea right)
8. Open season on Apollonias, Maytes etc.
9. Portrayal of Prince as an unstable person.
So overall I liked it, as I read it during a period where my interest in Prince was at a low.

The best book is Prince, a pop life by Dave Hill. Although its severely out of date now.

To tell you the truth I buy these books and Don't read them! WHY? Well, I would rather Not Read HEARSAY. I think the only book one needs to read is Prince's Music. You know when Prince writes a book That will B the One to Read. I kinda look at stuff and say..Yeah..So What! Just the way it is. I don't really want to read anything that is NOT What I have SEEN or KNOW about PRINCE.
