I bought this DVD and have played it once or twice....defies logic how it was released in such a badly edited format....when Prince is dead and buried and future generations see this dvd they will not understand why he was loved so much....and a rip off the way it say on the tracklisting 'money dont matter 2nite'' - when he only sings a couple of lines of it !

It's a great DVD, no doubt, it's just a little too instumental for me. I guess the full live show would have been a totally different experience.

Glad to see this dvd finally getting some props! It was trashed like crazy around here when it first came out.
The ridiculousness of editing down the full concert aside, I found this dvd a lot more fun to watch than say "Rave", which annoyed the heck out of me with all of those quick cuts (to disguise the fact that not much was going on). The lighting on "Aladdin" was execellent; there weren't nearly as many moments where performers stepped into dark spots as on the earlier videotaped shows. The director/editor missed a few key moments (i.e. the camera is on the wrong person during a solo, or whatever, but show me one dvd/video where that hasn't happened. And I'm not including "Sign O' The Times" because many shots in that movie (although I love it) were staged and then edited to perfection. Plus, and I think someone touched on this, I love the look of this show on film...and you can include the Detroit "Parade" show and "Sign O' The Times here...these filmed shows just look so much better that videotaped ones, IMO. And all of the music featured is really great! One small annoyance: the lameness of making "The Ride" a seperate 'bonus track' when it was part of the same show, and could have easily just been placed on the main program.

But in terms of MUSIC, it´s indeed real good. Of course, I would love to have a Prince DVD with the same level of production of Red Hot´s ´Slane Castle´, but I am very happy that Prince made a high-level musicianship DVD, with a great band, lots of guitars, etc. My only complain was when he interrupted ´Money dont matter´....I hate when he cuts songs live.

Of course, some people put lots of extras, great image, loads of cameras....and it´s much more interesting....but Aladiin is a great concert to watch, even in a poor production, specially for people who couldnt attend the ONA concerts

I don´t know what you are guys complaining about. I just bought Sade Lovers rock DVD and although the light effects are cool, Sade is singing cool, everything is cool, but the songs are almost the same as on CD. This DVD won´t dissapoint you, but it also won´t suprise you. Prince´s always changing his songs so much that they are sometimes unrecognisable, but usually they are even better than the original versions and that´s what I love about this DVD. I love the LIVE totally different versions of all those songs. They have so much energy, that even if the screen was black I´d be happy. The music is strong enough to pass the energy on me and if I can see what was going on onstage as well, I can´t be dissapointed. I wouldn´t worry about the effect on the future generations, cause those ppl who love music, will only experience some of the finest music ever. Those who are interested in perfect artificial shows will have all the Britneys, Madonnas and others to choose from. And I must say that my dear MJ has dissapointed me with History tour as well, where the songs were identical to the studio versions. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

What albm is You want me from? I just looooove this song. Prince´s dancing is sooooo cool in it as well. He reminds me of MJ at times with his poses while playing The Work. I just fell in love with him all over again. What a genius.
The dvd is okay, but why was a three hour concert cut into an 80 minute dvd? While I was not at this particular show, I did attend the One Night Alone Tour in New York City, and the Dvd did nothing to capture the intensity and intimacy of that tour. [Edited 9/15/05 12:37pm] It was more than ok, it was fabulous. I agree with U Dag and I'm with you about Strollin and U Want Me. Also if you listened The Other Side of the Pillow was in between there as well, pure heaven as you said. By the way I went to the ONA show when it came to my town and I loved him, but the show could've went on til' midnight or past that as far as I'm concerned, it wasn't long enough for me. You can never compare a DVD to being there live in the flesh.

what a shame. What of the most beautiful melodies EVER! Yes, it's a shame Prince didn't record "Strollin'" in the studio this way. It seems to my ears as if it's another part of the same song, and they belong together. When I first heard Strollin on D & P it sounded kind of unfinished - cool, but anti-climactic. The Strollin'/U Want Me combo makes what is otherwise just an average song great for me. See also the One Nite Alone...in Berlin bootleg CD - spectacular performance on that one. he looks the same as on the cover during the whole show. I don´t know what is talking a lot when it comes to Prince, but he´s got some funny remarks there. and yes he looks HOT!! BTW guys, I just fell in love with the Everlasting Now. The instrumental part of it is Prince´s melodies are just the closest to my heart. I am melting listening to it. Actually u could 'cuz that's how poor Aladin really is. My uncle Guiseppe's wedding video look better than that. I'm sorry but a DVD isn't just about the music, there's a reason why it's not just a CD...That whole pretentious I'm only in2 music shit don't cut it. Prince was after your money with that cheap shit... Just like the ONA box set, that sounds like it was recorded on a 200 dollar MD. People with MJ avatars shouldn't accuse others of being artificial..there's no cred in that at all.. ...Your coochie gonna swell up and fall apart...
