I just browing the npgmc and found reference to this tape with 2 songs: Jam of the year and face down!

Was it ever released in cd and how the quality of the recording?

Is it essencial?

This was never released on CD format.

It's essential as can be. Although it says fourth generation bootleg clearly on the cover, it's not. It' more like a first generation or part of the master. Prince is funny sometimes like that.

It's a good cassete single to have in your collection.

But where can Î find it?

the npgmc has been a fiasco in term of back catalogue and few people can convert cassettes into mp3...

Back in the day when I listened to tapes...

I have no idea where that tape is now. There was some great base-playing on it. Of course, for the $20 he charged for it, there had better be.

Pricing was funny at the time. I bought the NYC tape for $20 and the Kamasutra tape for $25 the same day I placed my order for the 5CD set of Crystal Ball ($50), then walked down the street to Borders, and picked up the Holy River / Welcome 2 The Dawn cassette free of charge...
