well the PPs said they don't submit sales figures to anybody because its none of their business! haha, so i guess that answers that.

what annoyed me about it was the way they said 'what we sell', its one thing doing the whole npg family crap to talk to people but its annoying they say we like they have anything to do with princes music firsthand. bah.

anyway, only rising one place overnight suggests its slowing down its activity, maybe it'll get to #15 by sunday or whatever, i'm not sure its going to chart on the hot100 though with no airplay.

Apple sells about 2 million songs/day and prince in in their top 20 tracks - i'd say he's selling far more on iTunes than he sells through the club. Far, far more. What's he sell, maybe 20,000 copies through the club, spread out over 10 days, that's 2000 copies/day. That wouldn't make a dent in the iTunes top 100.

the facts for downlaods

a #1 can be only 20k downloads per week of downlaods
gold digger becomes the biggest weekly downlaods with 80k downlaods


2 years back a #1 would need mere 1,500 and a #10 hit only 500 downlaods


in feb 2005 digital downloads were incoperated into Hot 100





for the first 6months of 2005 its more like 1million downlaods perday

180million downloads from all the different services available.

but most ppl forget most of the doanloads r hits of not only of today but of the last 50yrs . its very broad . some singles which are 20yrs old r still sellin briskly

its not like ur tradition single release.

just 2 years back they weren't selling 2 million songs/day. It's not just a coincidence that the biggest selling song happened last week as the iTunes sales rate constantly grows. I'll be shocked if SST doesn't end up selling at least 5x the copies on iTunes as what it sells at NPGMC - and that number will go up if it gets any airplay at all.

i have found out that the #1 radio song had a audience of 65mil and the rest of
the audience for the top 100 airplay is in the table below.

using the formula above i found out that 65mil needs 32.5k extra downloads

I'm not sure your calculations are right, can it really be that you only need 6500 downloads to have a Hot100 hit?

If it is true then either downloads are not reaching the figures I thought they were or Prince should be in the Hot100 quite easily? I suppose - here's hoping for the latter.

(audience/10,000)*5

so u need 32.5k "extra" downloads


that means if u have no airplay then u need to have 32.5k extra

so to have a #1 with no airplay

if the #2 download say has 20k downlaods and has #1 airplay

then u need 20k+32.5k=52.5k


Plus there is an inherent delay b4 the charts r released.

Todays sales will not reflect in the charts for 2 weeks

with my calculation sst should be in the top 40 quite easily

although its #1 on r&b it wont be #1 on billboard soul charts becasue they also
include hiphop most songs there r sellin alot more.

ok i'll take your word for it! although i know its poss to have no.1 without airplay, considering basically downloads count for 5% of the total chart position id have thought it would need ALOT of downloads.

so when do we find out if SST charts then? i really hope you're calculations are correct and it gets to the top40!

its not 5% its basically a ratio between audience on radio to downloads


there is no cap on the value of downloads

kanye west a prime example gold digger was huge in the downloads it went from
#19 #1 in one week on H100.

although gold digger reached #1 in the hot 100 it was only #41 on radio airplay



candy shop 50cent was the same very little airplay and lots of downloads

also one of green days songs bolevard of broken dream.. it was massive on downloads

the 2 songs had downloads of 40k for that week


in feb 2005 downloads statrted to be counted

call my name would have done very well on H100 if this policy was in place

call my name was the #5 best song on the urban AC for 2004 most likely got an audience of 20mill/ week


the H100 was also changed back in 1998 becoz mariah was manipulating the charts and by sellin the retail singles for 64 cents each. To have a hit in the H100 back then u had to release a retail single!! so she would gian some airplay and just went she peaked she would suddenly release a super cheap single so it would debut very high. MJ also used this once he debuted at #2 on the charts i forget the name of the single

So after 1998 no retail sales were included it was purely airplay and u know who owns those channels clearchannel they basically screw2ed the whole music industry. I actually filled a complaint with FCC but they just ignore you now Elliot sptizer is goin after them i am hopin for good results from him. I am sure he will have impact of what is played on radio.
