Funny that u should say that and u not picking "When Doves Cry" as one of your top five Prince songs!

i didn't say favorite... i said "BEST" BTW it is now probably JUST in my top 5, along with SOTT, My Name Is Prince, Controversy etc...

Yeah, I know u didn't say fave, but still. Many folks, when something is their fave, it usually rides as their best as well. But uh, I see that u have come to your senses!

I wonder what it would have sounded like with the bass.

On the last tour, Rhonda actually came up with a killer bass line for that song.

Levi did a good one, too.

Brownmark kinda put too many jitters into it.

But, yeah, I've always had trouble sleeping and sometimes couldn't poop for days on end cuz I've never heard Prince's original bass line for "When Doves Cry"

sorry

I actually genuinely do wonder what it sounds like. smile

Ahhh shit! I gotta disagree witcha on this one. Mark I feel, played the hell out of it on the Purple Rain Tour. Pure bottom funk with the specially placed slaps and pops. Mark was slangin" bigtime! And dancing step for step with P at the same time! Live, that was my favorite part of the song.

Hold up.
Mark was the nastiest bass player Prince ever employed. Mark played from the heart. But, for this song, his playin' was just TOO funkay.
Aight! lol

In terms of "best" as in archetypal pop song, I'd go with "Kiss".

When Doves Cry is awesome, but it's almost too innovative to be a "best" pop song.

Brownmark played bass great live onthis, and the synths/horns changed up the riff to make it funkier.

I posted this on the Artists' Forum , but noone replied..... I was wondering if anyone knows how to playt hat funky version of the riff? Sheila's band does it with live horns and sounds great.
