Yeah, I know u didn't say fave, but still. Many folks, when something is their fave, it usually rides as their best as well. But uh, I see that u have come to your senses! On the last tour, Rhonda actually came up with a killer bass line for that song. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

But, yeah, I've always had trouble sleeping and sometimes couldn't poop for days on end cuz I've never heard Prince's original bass line for "When Doves Cry" sorry I actually genuinely do wonder what it sounds like. Schöne Grüße Ahhh shit! I gotta disagree witcha on this one. Mark I feel, played the hell out of it on the Purple Rain Tour. Pure bottom funk with the specially placed slaps and pops. Mark was slangin" bigtime! And dancing step for step with P at the same time! Live, that was my favorite part of the song. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Mark played from the heart. But, for this song, his playin' was just TOO funkay. Aight! "Whatever skin we're in

In terms of "best" as in archetypal pop song, I'd go with "Kiss".
When Doves Cry is awesome, but it's almost too innovative to be a "best" pop song. Brownmark played bass great live onthis, and the synths/horns changed up the riff to make it funkier. I posted this on the Artists' Forum , but noone replied..... I was wondering if anyone knows how to playt hat funky version of the riff? Sheila's band does it with live horns and sounds great.
