1 bottle of water with 3 straws!

I'm trying to decide if the is kinky or just triffling as hell lol

Prince is cheaper than the sales rack at Goodwill

lol I vote trifflin. Kinky would be one straw. falloff
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Damn.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Note to self: If I ever go on a date with Prince (stop laughing, it could happen), make two stops before I get there. Burger King and the liquor store.

So just cuz he's loaded that means he's gotta throw his money away? Because he's rich he's gotta pay a couple hundred bucks for a bottle of water?
I'm sure the hotel made plenty of cash when he booked the V.I.P. room.

VIP rooms are "booked"? As in, "booked" 'ahead of time'? Maybe they are if someone wants to reserve the room on a certain date for a private party or some other large function, but I don't think VIP rooms are always gotten only for a fee. These hotels want big names in their restaurants and clubs and such because it's good business for them from many standpoints; but from the way this bit of gossip is being told, Prince didn't "book" the room -- he called the Tropicana on the spur of the moment one night and said he'd come by but wanted the VIP room for himself and his two lady friends, so the hotel kicked out the people who were already in the VIP room to meet his demand. (And I admit I'm not an authority on how VIP rooms are handled, but it doesn't sound to me like Prince had to pay anything to get the VIP room, he was just playing the I'M-DOING-THIS-CUZ-I-*CAN* card, maybe to show off for his new pals? smile and the hotel, figuring they might make some big $$$ off him and generate some good PR by having a star of P's caliber, acquiesed and kicked out the 'lesser important folks' to make room for a bigname star.)

As I mentioned above on this thread, I don't really think the issue in this case is that Prince didn't pay X amount of cash for a tip...in this particular incident, I think it's that the hotel went through the hassle of clearing out the already occupied VIP room just to accomodate Prince, and then he comes in, orders basically nothing and either left no tip, or such a measly tip, that it was taken as an "F-U, I'm just doing this because I'm a star and I **can*" type of thing. But oh well. That's how the cookie crumbles. I think Prince was rather a rat to act so rudely, but like I also said -, these places wanna get the rich celebrities in their facilities by ego stroking and kissing ass, and catering to the stars' self-importance by all this VIP shit and by treating the stars as though they're superior to other folks, sooooo...these hotels and clubs are just going to have to sometimes expect attitude like Prince pulled, and not bitch about it when it happens. biggrin

You have any idea how much hotel and restaurant workers make -or should I say, don't make? They depend on tips to make a living wage.

Yes, they depend on tips because they are not making enough money from their salary. They are not making enough because US labour laws allow employers to get away with very low salaries.

If the law was changed to aid low-paid workers, in that they get a decent minimum wage, surely that would make everyone happy and we then wouldn't have to leave tips for bad service? So blame the law, not the bad tippers.

I'd blame both.

The province I live in has the highest minimum wage in Canada -8 dollars an hour. When you take into consideration rent, food, bills, and other basic necessities, a minimum wage worker is still fucked without their tips.

But who said you have to tip for bad service? You're not supposed to, you know. It's how you let the establishment know their employee's not doing their job properly.

I heard about this.

I think where the the whole "leaving a poor tip" issue comes up is the fact that Prince [allegedly] made a big production of calling up the Tropicana in Hollywood (where this incident supposedly occured) and telling them he was going to come by **IF** he - and his entourage - could have the (already occupied) VIP room to themselves....soooo the Tropicana booted out the people who were already there, Prince finally showed up later and ordered nothing but one bottle of water with three straws, leaving either no tip or such a small, token tip that it was taken as more of an 'insult', than a legitimate gratuity for the waitstaff.

I guess the Tropicana waitstaff, or the hotel itself or whatever, felt slightly miffed that they went through the hassle of booting out a bunch of people from the VIP room, only to have Prince come in and play MR. ROCK STAR and not even show any appreciation for the hotel having met his demands, and then leave a tip (or no tip, I don't know what the actual truth is) that was possibly intended to communicate attitude moreso than anything else.

I think it's funny myself. lol I think it's nauseating - the whole "VIP room" thing, and the way hotels and shit fall all over themselves to asskiss bigshot celebrities who like to pull rank and get special treatment. Maybe next time the Tropicana will think it over first when some 'VIP' calls up and makes a bunch of demands merely because they're so-and-so.

yeeehaw! sounds like ol rude boy to me! giggle I'm so selfishly exicited about all this! woot!
oh...and I'm sure (well, not really) Prince will be billed for that room. If things had gone better and the club had filled up and made a killing then maybe they wouldn't have charged him but...I bet he gets a bill.
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok
