P changes his style for the same reason we all do and it's called evolution. How are you to grow as an individual if you don't expand your horizons and try something new? A lot of you forgot the world would be a boring place if we all stayed the same all the time.

Now I have Ur attention, surely some1 else must feel there is an underlying sadness some1 is trying 2 escape and an emptiness some1 is trying 2 fill when they R constantly not satisfied with themself...surely it CANNOT all be down 2 mere showmanship...P is human afterall and gets depressed, hurt, isolated, lonely... He's lookin' 4 something..running from something..but what? neutral

As long as he doesn't find what he's looking for, he'll never stop changing biggrin

Agreed. And that cannot be a bad thing. Thanks, my question has been answered.
I conclude that Prince's Tortured soul (4 what ever reason) his unhappiness within himself...is the very thing that makes us all happy within ourselves...His insecurities make us feel secure, his inadequacies make us feel adequate and prince's Music born from his pain ease our own pain....face it, Prince 'fans' live off Prince's Misery. neutral

lol

I dunno if I'd put it quite like that. There are a lot of fans who feel they have a personal connection with the man, through his music, and think they genuinely care for him as a person.

That's nice, personally, I couldn't care less about his personal life, I just like it when he puts out great music, although of course, since Prince's music is often very personal, it's difficult to separate the two completely.

I BELIEVE:

growing up so small, getting teased by peers, not getting all the girls like andre and duane...being shuttled around left and right from place to place...left him with a deep feeling that he had to overcompensate to just fit in...and the fame hightened that sense that with all the extra effort he could be great...even greater than his peers...BUT ...i believe he is also afraid to let that effort = (image) go...for he may be sent in a timemachine right back to the early days...which were hell !!!!!

I don't know if you post this crap just to get a rise out of people or if you honestly believe this nonsense. Either way, I think they're just pathetic desperate cries for attention, which only shows just how "tortured" your soul is. Do us and yourself a favor, find someone who can "professionally" listen to your theories and give your their thoughts.

Prince changes every time we see him but it just seems so contrived and staged...so thought out and unnatural...like when he went from Im Afro cute in 1978 2 Im Virgin cute in 1979 2 Im a sex freak in Dirty Mind 2 Im a Communist student in controversy 2 Im Glam Rock in '1999' 2 Im a Rock star in Purple rain 2 Im now a Hippy in ATWIAD 2 now I think I'll be a slick Playboy in parade 2 now I'll be a Political activist in SOTT 2 what haven't I done Oh I know! I'll be a spiritual leader in Lovesexy...after that the constant changing just went crazy until he changed his name, his singing turned 2 rapping, and he's wearing more foundation than Alicia keys

Everyone talks about this..

But what about this transformation..

2 this one..

-----
First of all we all change with the times. P was not going to be wearing a fro in the 80's and he is not going to wear a ruffle shirt in the 00's.

Secondly, it is called the entertainment industry. You have got to stay ahead of everyone else and be different or you will not last very long in the industry. I think that is the real reason Maddona and Prince are still around after 20 plus years in the industry. They knew how to keep changing and keep us guessing.
Well put Laura. I think a lot of people fail to realize that Prince would not be the legend he is today had he not experimented with different styles of music as well as fashion tastes. Someone needs to kick Michael Jackson in the @$$ and tell him the 19th century military outfits and the glove are played out.
