Do U think Under The Cherry Moon....

would have had been better if was in color. I think it would have been better without the boring black and white. Eventhough I love and enjoy the movie. Color in the film would have made a better a expression and everything would come out flamboyance. I've seen pictures on set in color of the movie and thought it looked much better than the boring black and white.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

It might have been better if Mary's dad had just offed Christopher 15 minutes into the movie, making the movie a lot shorter.

Have to say, I don't agree. I really loved the fact this movie was in B&W when I first saw it back in '86... I wouldn't mind seeing a colorized version just for the heck of it but the fact it was in B&W was the very least of it's problems.

I personally think color would've took away the glamour and smooth texture out of UTCM. I love the B&W style and I think it was the first time I appreciated movies without color.

I love the black&white too, but think color would of made it more glamourous and cool style, and make other things in the movie stick out and catch Ur attention, over passed in Black and White setting.

Yep, but B&W gives it that more "stark-and-smooth-at-the-same-time" look. If it was colorized, it would've been a little cheezy and polished too me.

nod The B & W definitely gave the movie a unique retro Hollywood film and that's what makes it a clasic.

Had UTCM been filmed in color, it would've kind of undermined the basic concept and premise behind the whole movie, wouldn't it?

My opinion. It doesn't matter. Although some parts were funny, I really didn't care for Cherry Moon. But the music was good.

I love Prince, but this movie was a train wreck ready to happen. It could have been in color, had Morris Day and the old Time members, Spike Lee as the director, and Vanity, plus Apollonia, and this movie would still suck. This ranks up there with one of those "what was he thinking" moments.

It would have been better if Prince didnt' direct it.

Also, If they would have added just 10 or 15 more minutes of music into it, the movie actually wood have been pretty good.

I think UTCM is entertaining in parts. Much much better than Graffiti Bridge.

Actually, wasn't the idea of making it a black&white movie an afterthought?

Just watched this again the other night, it's great! And yes, it would be interesting to see in colour, but it's fine the way it is.

anyhoo,i think in color alot of it would look tacky and cheesy(esp. the outfits!)...the b/w is prefect for it.

Actually, Prince was the one who wanted it shot in black & white from the start,
the studio wanted it shot in color. In the end they compromised and shot the
whole movie on color film, but processed it in black & white (so the option
would be there to have it in color if they wanted). Unfortunately, a minor
problem with shooting it that way means that the black and white isn't quite
as crisp and lacks a certain amount of contrast (being a little 'greyer' than
genuine 'black & white').

The black and white usage gives the film a different vibe, especially for a film that mostly takes place on the French Riviera. I think it added alot to the film...

The last part of the movie was in color. After Christopher gets shot and they start playing SISIA. Not all the theaters showed it that way, but several did. I remember the red polka dots on what's her name's panties as she chased Tricky up the stairs.

I think if the movie was in color it would have a totally different feel to it. It would be nice to see a color version, but black and white make the movie.

Right. I think it would have looked so much better filmed in b&w, one can definately tell it hasn't been.

As for the original poster's opinion that b&w is "boring", well, I guess that speaks for itself really. confused

B&W gives the film more of an identity. If it was released in color, it would have been just another movie.
