Going to Minneapolis

I'm travelling to the US (from England) later this month and am going to Minneapolis purely because of the Prince connection. Never been before. I'm going to check out Paisley Park and First Avenue but where else should I go for the full site-seeing experience? Where was Glam Slam, graffitti bridge etc.? What are the chances of P being around? Who's been and what did you check out? Questions, questions! Any advice from anyone who's been would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!

I went in July and checked out Paisley Park (the gates were open), drove by his house & talked with the guy at the guard schack, went to the grocery store near his house and chatted with the tellers, had a drink at Applebees near his house and talked with the locals about their sightings of him and Mani, hit First Avenue, Calhoun Square, etc. I'm not sure if it is the Prince influence but there is a lot of purple in Uptown. It's everywhere.

Have a great time and enjoy yourself!!

There's LOADS to do in Minneapolis & St Paul, just walking around the parks is cool as all hell! Lots of great parks like the Sculpture Park too.

The Metrodome do an interesting guided tour, and there are a number of great historial sites not too far outside the city. Check out The Quest club too whilst in town - home of Glam Slam back in the day.

Be sure to check out The Fine Line Cafe, they do a great brunch on a sunday, or at least they did last time I was in town. Regardless, it was probably my fave spot in Minneapolis - and as I found out, you never know who'll drop in! First Avenue is of course a must, try and catch a gig
- I saw fIREHOSE there which kicked ass. You could always go and see Park Avenue United Methodist Church too I guess if that was your bag. shrug

Be sure to check out 'Bunkers' downtown on a monday night too - you simply have to check out Dr Mambo's Combo.

You're going at THE best time too - you'll get to see the famous 'Fall colours' - and they are really amazing.

Have fun!

Minneapolis is a great city to explore (I live 2 hours away). There's great shopping in Uptown also. Like any big city, be careful if you're walking by yourself at night downtown. Check out exploreminnesota.com to see what else is going on. Have fun.

prince is interesting and all but he isn't the only famous minnesotan. bob dylan, f. scott fitzgerald, garrison keillor, al franken, etc. have also helped put minnesota on the map.

the walker art center, orchestra hall and the guthrie theater are worth a visit to if you enjoy that kinda stuff.

the city of st. paul, which is just across the river and easily accessible by bus, also has some cool stuff. the science museum is neat.

good luck and have fun!

I have a live bobcat living in my basement. It's Minnesota's greatest natural attraction.

I was doing some research one night and I discovered that the Watson's girl isn't a Minnesota celebrity at all. She lives in Indiana.

i can't believe she's got her own website--i'd seen that before, because a while ago on this community i'm on over on livejournal somebody put up the question, "who's scarier: the menards guy or the watson's woman?"

damn near everybody voted for the watson's chick...and for good reason. she looks like a pretty version of the predator. evillol

Yet, I'm somehow drawn to her dough-like breasts.

I wish to make the love of a million beating hearts to her on one of the tanning beds she so alluringly advertises.

There is sooo much to do in Minny that I can not begin to tell you where to start. The only thing that I can say is spend a week or two. Enjoy the night life and have fun during the day. Hang in Uptown, that is always jumping. Kick it at First Ave. Go over to St. Paul and have mad fun. There is too much to do in Minny and St.Paul. Pick a club and just go, kid.
