NPG Maxi-Single...Yay or Nay?

Just got it now...still can't make my mind! Some weak parts on it!

TC ruins it! Still the remix of NPG is great! Still not enough Rosie on it!

Yay or nay?

I remember buying it when I was like 14 thinking that "Gett off" was on it, but it was the weak-ass "Get off." I felt like quite a dumbass. It was before diamonds and pearls came out.

Ha ha. Easy mistake to make though. Yeah "geT off" is rubbish.

Prince tried a "my perogative" but it failed. I like the original song though. The video is crap mind. It failed as a single I read. Why would MTV want to play a video full of "graffiti bridge" clips. Nice one Prince, u dummie.

Yeah, I think it #36 on the charts. I really don't like the graffiti bridge era. the music, the jesus look, etc. I guess a couple of good songs came out of it.

Anxiety

i love all of that rambley b-side stuff on the single, though it's not the easiest listening in the world to my ears. part of it is the early-90s production values, and the other part of it is trying to figure out what he's on about...but don't get me wrong, it's enjoyable!

The suite of songs are great (Get Off, Lube Lady, LL,LR), the rapping is unneccessary - just replace 'em with the outtakes - Play, Positive Place, My Tree.....

excellent outtakes like "play" and "my tree" etc?

Because then it wouldn't have been eligible for a maxi single release at the time. A single can have only a said number of non-album tracks and then it becomes an EP/album and it can't be rated on the promotional singles charts, which is the purpose of releasing a single anyway.

I like the NPG remix, get off, lube lady and loveleft, loveright. The rest is quite crap!

Just a small thing in this thread bothers me. The remix of "New power generation" is called "Funky weapons remix". The remix of "Cream" is called "NPG mix". That's all lol

I actually don't mind any of the songs on this record. I think they are better than the songs on the "Cream" and "Gett off" 12" singles.

Plus you all make me feel old lol I bought this single when it came out. On vinyl and CD.

THAT IS CRAZY TALK!!!! The Gett Off single is one of my all time faves!

That being said, I do enjoy the NPG single. It's actually one I pull out to listen to at least annually smile

and djdaffy, yer not the only one who's "old" I bought this at the time of release too! smile

The production on that single is awful.

It sounds 10 times more dated then joey lawrence or even new kids on the block.

I should love it, but its awfully tinny. Funny as tracks like the time's "Love machine" have good production in my book (even with the tinny drums), but "new power generation" just has a horrible sound (or at least, the remix does)

The drums are wrong. I know morris is playing them, but it just doesn't fit. U needed that drum machine he used for "love machine" or "round and round".

If u like the maxi single then u guys love tc ellis' album. I think that has good moments (the title track, cold thang, girl o my dreams), but ? The production really lets the song down

lol I have to admit, I like the stuff on the "Gett off" 12" better than the stuff on the "Cream" 12". ...and thank you, I don't feel so old anymore lol

sorry guys,I didn't like this maxi-single disbelief

I think "New Power Generation" is a weak song to begin with, and the remixes dont't really improve the song at all.

actually the drums morris played seem to have been covered by a new drum track, if you listen to the outake of NPG you can here the natural sounding drums. I love the sound of the npg weapon remix, I like the the rhythm guitar/percussion stick and the tinny drums (which is very progressive, i think fat/reverbed funk drums are very 80's and dated)
