5 is hard!! mmmm.... 1)The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker - Man, I miss this side of Prince--I get the feeling we're not gonna see this quirky-funky, left-of-center type of thing from him anymore -- IMO, the closest he got to Sly's loose feel... 2)Joy In Repitition- Dark and hypnotic... 3)Let's Work - when I hear this, no matter what I'm doing, I gotta stop and groove!! 4)Adore - Beautiful and Hilarious at the same time! I'm not sure if this is quite the order I'd put them but if absolutely had to be limited to five I think they would be
Lady Cab Driver-Catchy as hell, incredibly (even disturbingly) sexual, PURE funk, and a great display of his talents for lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass playing, drumming, drum machine programming, vocals. Oh hell it's practically the ultimate prince song. Alphabet Street-Poppy yes but gloriously poppy and incredibly funky, show's what his Lovesexy-era band could do Computer Blue-The Dark, weird, robotic funk-rock jam to end all dark, weird robotic funk-rock jams. The extended version is perhaps prince's magnum opus Play In The Sunshine-Prince's Dance To The Music, a wild boogying masterpiece faithful to the spirit of rock, funk, and big band jazz at the same time She's Always In My Hair-Call it quaint if you wish, but the lyrics resonant with me more than any other prince song, plus it's glitzy neo-psychedelic rock at it's finest Elaboration Edit [Edited 9/10/05 0:04am] | |
