Prince-Superdome connection

Maybe it's a sign of how obsessive being a Prince fan can be, but whenever I think of the Superdome in New Orleans, I reflect on Prince recording "4 The Tears In Your Eyes" there during the Purple Rain tour.

As the story goes, Prince laid down the basic tracks on Saturday February 2, 1985 in the mobile recording unit. Susan Rogers was the only other person there at the time as much of the tour had continued on to the next show. Typical of Prince, he came up with such a beautiful track while recording everything himself.

This was quite a while ago because Prince was still a carnivore (a janitor gave him some of his sandwich when he realized that he was locked in the place with no food). At least that was the story that was being passed around.

Not to take anything away from what is going on now (it is truly a tragedy), but up until recently, I always looked at the Super Dome and thought of it as the birthplace to that song. I think that might change now.
The expanded version of my book PRINCE and The Purple Rain Era Studio Sessions 1983-1984 was released in November 2018. (www.amazon.com/gp/product/1538114623/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i0) or www.facebook.com/groups/1...104195943/
