no hits anymore... is it possible that prince is really just taking his time to come up with some new SUPER jams since he put his foot in his mouth in 2004 claiming that he wouldnt play his hits anymore after the musicology tour ???? ( i dont believe we have seen the last of kiss and purple rain myself..) but he did make a ton of cash promoting these claims...??? [Edited 8/30/05 12:34pm]

The tour was billed with the claims, and Prince, whenever questioned about it, rather than promote the claim toned it down by saying that he was going to give the songs a rest for a while to make way for different music. So, given:
1. the foregoing 2. that he made a load of money out of the tour 3. that he's done this sort of thing before and by now most people (including yourself) know what he's doing I wouldn't say that he's put his foot in his mouth. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

I would love to hear him play more "non-hits"
It would be an awesome treat for some of his loyal fans to hear their favorite songs performed live. Not that a loyal fan can't wanna hear Kiss or Let's Go Crazy, but come on. I think at this point I could perform one of those songs and pass for Prince myself. If you will, so will I

I sure hope so cause that would be GREAT if we could get some hot jams from Prince again. I truly miss hearing Prince music that makes me want to dance my ass off. I know in my heart he can pull off something as hot as Kiss, Erotic City, 1999, Controversy and even When Doves Cry again. Doesn't have to be a hit but danceable to be in the clubs, i.e. P Control and Let's Work. That's the only thing that I'd just go crazy for with the next album. If it goes in to "hit" territory then it'll just make those songs from the past even more legendary and the shows in the future are going to kick ass even more. It would be great if the shows from 2004 sparked something in him to try and create something new that'll get people jumping the way that they were last spring/summer.
But I have to agree, I'm sure we'll hear Let's Go Crazy again at some point. [Edited 8/30/05 12:52pm] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

As a young (22) and new-ish Prince fan I hope he doesn't stop playing the hits. I have to see him perform songs like Let's Go Crazy, Little Red Corvette etc. He should cater for both old and new fans. Perhaps for half the show play the hits and the other half the new more experimental music. [Edited 8/30/05 13:12pm]

strangely enough, my favorite all-time Prince song is "Sometimes it snows in April", never a hit, yet, he played it during the acoustic set of the Musicology tour. I was very pleased and almost had tears in my eyes. I had tickets to see Prince in 1987 and 1992 but missed both shows, I was NOT going to miss him this time around and he did NOT disappoint me at all. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.
