The Unfortunate Demise of the Maxi-single

I miss the days of the 5 to 7 track maxi-single with each single release. The CD single is going the way of the DoDo. A set of Musicology remixes would have been cool. Some of my favorites were.

Space (My personal favorite)
Letitgo
The Greatest Romance
Gett Off
Cream
My Name is Prince
Scandalous Sex Suite

Some of the tracks were weak, but Ill take em.

Yeah the My name is Price one was my fav - great mix of Sexy MF on there.

You can still get copies of some of them in Tower here in Dublin...but I don't think we will see one again from P.
I can't sing, but I got soul

at least a musicology remix album woulda been fun, kinda like what he did with rave.

i know there's an 'official' remix of the song musicology floating around in DJ booths out there...why not make some bucks off of it? a download-only version, somethin??

The Space Universal Love Remix is better than the original in my opinion.

What, u dont like "cream" maxi single? Thats my fav.

I never hear the album version of cream, always the "n.p.g mix", with what sounds like a sped up arsenio hall saying "prince and the new power generation" multiple times incase u forgot his new band name back then.

Prince put alot of effort into some of those maxi singles (considering they wre only maxi singles)

Yeah one of the house mixes (the one he made a video for) is good fun.

As for "new power generation" maxi single. Even I hate that. It is baaaaad.

Whats the "sexy mf" remix with the mavis staples samples? I like that remix, its funny (i think its on the "my name is prince" cd single?)

What I REALLY miss is the day sof the "extended versions" of songs..... forget remixes.

Kiss, Mountains, ...they took the songs to a whole new level. Even jams like Rasberry Beret, U Got the Look added cool guitar breakdowns to make the song longer.

i was on my way to another room when an image of you sweetly
appeared in the mirror perhaps you recall?
you and i were kneeling in the middle of a crystal ball (as far as this verse that's all i can remember)

"i am violet, the organ grinder
and i grind all the live long day
i live for the organ i'm grinding
i'll die but i will not go away"

did you know that i still have your stockings?
i keep 'em in a drawer next to your brasseire
come hither my sweet, lend me your attention
come hither lend me your ear
i do believe my piano was stolen
i do believe that you want me near
well i can deal with a sucka if he's in yo mouth
but i can't deal with insincere
i am the one that lives on your heart
you love me, no matter what you say
swear that you don't miss the organ grinder, grinding on you every day.

i took all the pictures you gave me
and i placed right under my bed
and i pumped and i pumped
'till the 'gasm musta just jumped
from my feet to the top of my head

like a puppy, i licked your devotion
from your neck, from your eyes, from your ears
when you cried..i became your emotion
and if you ever cry like that again,i'll be here.

wink

Oh boy between B-sides and maxi-singles? This is where Prince excelled!!! I remember getting butterflies when I would hear remixes of my favorite Prince songs.

I used to love that Gett Off video collection, must of watched it a million times. especially the Gett Off housestyle video

Gangsta Glam and CLockin the jizz vidoes were a bit strange and funny. The skates and bikini's, Prince squeezing and pushing that girls tits up, Sonny laughing while getting beat up in the alley and talking about UFO's!

those were the days

YES!

Most of Prince's best music can be found on his 12" singles.
