Live Drums Vs. Drum Machines

Which Prince sound do you prefer more:

Prince playing live drums in the studio or tracks he made from the use of Drum Machines.

Being a musician, I will always lean towards live drums. But, P did get great, innovative sounds from his Linn. Having both doesn't hurt, as long as it's produced well.

I enjoy them both. Live drums or Machines.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I like both, depending on the song and the drummer. I miss the old LM-1 sound though. That instrument is, IMO, like another bandmember.

I gotta say, I prefer the Linn. That was his sound. Nobody would be talking about it if it weren't for him.

I do wish we could get one more round of Linn-induced funk.

I prefer live drums *now*, but then, the Linn was king.

When he's used the Linn in recent years (like WDUWM2D) it just sounds cheap, 'clean' (digital) and nowhere near as interesting as, then.

Goddamn, i feel spastic listening to that song-- i want to gesticulate wildly while doing somkind of frantic Seinfeldian dance move.

That being said, i much prefer his work on the Linn, as he has found some serious ass drummers to do the dirty work for him...

This is what I was thinking with anyone that says "The Revolution" was his best band??? eek rolleyes

How can you tell? Prince played all the instruments on the cd's. The drums for the most part were from Drum Loops & other instruments were from Keyboards.

So you cant be going by The CD! So really is the Live Performances of "The Revolution" that great?? NO!

Watch them on the American Music Awards in 1985! The Drumming Live was'nt that great! The vocals,etc..

Prince was amazing, of course! BUT the band wasn't that amazing.

When it comes to drums, it's a combination of both that I like. When it comes to live horns or synths though, synths wins with me every time.

Novabreaker

He should start making IDM beats.

What the hell is a "drum machine" anyway? I thought those things vanished off the face of earth when people moved onto computers, it's software these days. Does anybody these days really use a drum machine? A sequencer program, freeware/shareware, all the way! Hell you could make more varied beats with a modest tracker program already in the early 90s!woot!
