When he put out an album like "Around The World In A Day" after "Purple Rain", I thought he had gotten on drugs. When he followed it with "Parade", I thought he had fried his brains. lol

Then he proved he took heed to the "this is your brian on drugs" ad campaign and gave us SOTT

I personally know someone from MLPS and he told me about how when Prince and Big Chick used to go to someone's house in MPLS and buy pot in the 82/83 era. Although my friend didn't see him smoke it, he knew people who knew Prince wanted some pot for himself. Hey, the guy is human! Big deal. I know he was also very aware of the damage that drug abuse could do to people too.. He had to se members of his family and his crew abuse drugs using the money they made from working for him! Big Chick was reported to be up to $1000/week before he died. Bonnie Boyer had a chemical problem and apparently now his own sister/half sister is in rehab for crystal and Prince himself is said to be trying to get her help. I don't think Prince was ever really into drugs, I think just like anyone else, for relaxation purposes to chill out or whatever, but the mroe he saw people get fucked up from drugs and drug addiction and abuse, the more against drugs he became. Eventually to the point where he would no longer tolerate people using around him. Staff and crew known to be using were asked to leave. So yes, drugs did i think have an influence of Prince and his output musically and indirectly, as well as undoubtably through his own experiences. Hey, the guy is no saint, but he wasn't really into it like the Beatles or anything. Anyway, thats my twocents

No way to really tell, but I love weed, and I've done some great stuff while buzzin and jammin live. I imagine P would have done so too. When Hendrix played the Monterey Pop festival, and when Santana played Woodstock, they both were on Acid and both of those were great, great shows. As great as prince was in the 80s, shit, he probably would have been even greater on drugs. I'm sure this thread will turn into some bullshit, the drug users vs. the non drug users, but that's not really the point and I hope yall can keep that in mind. Some of the best music in the history of music was created on drugs.
Keep your headphones on.

LOL! I'm not gonna agree or disagree with that because I agree a lot of great music has been created whilst under the influence of one thing or another, but I don't think Prince's discipline in touring, rehersing, recording etc would have been so strict had he been filling his time with one, or more, recreational drug.

I bet it would have made some wacked out music, in a good way, but I don't think he'd have been able to keep it up for long.

Had he been a druggie and would've indulged as much as allowing it to influence his creative decisions, chances are that he would have played concerts lasting anywhere between 20 minutes and six hours depending on all sorts of trivia. He would have spent 10 minutes between songs tuning his guitar. His reportoire would have included extended versions of slow bluesy jams with protracted guitar solos riddled with feedback problems. The only times you'd get him to perform any encores - covers from atomic heart mother and trout mask replica - if the audience would start chanting "it ain't over...'till you legalize it!"

Every album would have taken him 5 to 6 years to produce, with endresults that would have made lovesexy looked like demos. He would have made an album that would not have included any percussive instruments or indeed any devices that by ordinary description would be considered musical.
His best achievement would be the 4-cd boxset news and all his output would be channeled through Warner Brothers, who in the years between his new albums would surprise us with yearly compilation albums, remix albums and compilation remix albums.
I feel pretty, that's enough

Did any1 add the section from Per Nielson's (sp) book?

In the book it talks about an experience Prince had with ecstacy WITH the actress from Grafitti Bridge.

They were alone in Paisley Park. According 2 Sussanah, Prince's ex, he called her a few times, just to tell her that he loved her. He then asked her to come down to P.Park, early hours of the morn.

When she arrived, the whole place was dark. When Prince showed up, out of the darkness, according to her, her was not in his normal state of mind.

He said he wanted 2 tell her that she loved him. She also said he wasn't the same after this and that she spent hours on the phone with him.

I'm not making this up; any1 who has the book will confirm.

maybe ...

... He would have died after the withdrawal of the Black Album,
and he would have been a legend like Jimi Hendrix / John Lennon / Bob Marley

I guess Prince prefers the path he has chosen?

Hey If Prince would have been an every day drug user he would be where Elvis, Ray, Janis, Jimmi ,and Rick James are at today. What is so unique about prince is that he didn't have to get on any substances to get his talent out of him what u see and hear is really Prince. For the most part, his music aint Prince under a chemical influence.

That is what i kind of admire about him too.

Peace

ThreadBare

Herein we see the beauty of propaganda digested by fans. "If Prince had used drugs (consistently)..."

The only reason many fans disbelieve that he was a regular user of drugs is because of the weakly anti-drug stance some of his songs have taken.

Methinks these are the same people who think it impossible for him to have children aside from his late infant, Gregory.

Some aspects of life do occur off-camera, amigos. And, stars' damage-control teams go to lengths to make sure negative facts don't become news.

Please, remember that.
