"For You" is an underrated album!

I have heard people say that "For You" is one of prince's worst albums. But i really think it's one of his best and most underrated. It has some absolute classics like just as long as we're together, soft and wet and im yours! And all the other songs never drop below the level of being good. It may sound a little dated but i think it shows prince's genius to it's highest level, and is just a very cool little album cool. Thoughts?

For you is a great album.
All compositions are really great, even the ballads are great.
Later on Prince got into the Power-ballads, which I really can’t stand,
but these gentle ballads are great and sensitive.
The production of this album is probably the best Prince has ever done.
Prince has varied between no-production-at-all and over-production during his career.
For You may tend to be overproduced, but I found it greatly balanced.

Indeed, this album isn’t revolutionary at all, but it represent perfect the soul-funk of the late 70’s.
I really do like every single composition on this album.

Mine too. Kudos to Patrice Rushen who helped Prince on this song.

I agree For You is a great album. The opening track 'For You' is one of my favourites. Love those vocals. kind of reminds me of the first track on Brian Wilson's Smile opus, "Gee/Our Prayer"
I'm testing postive 4 the funk

You damn skippy. Baby What We Gonna Do! I'm Yours! SnW!

The whole songwriters vibe of last years tour semed to go back to For You traditional songcraft The extras were minimal and the "songs" were at the fore. Also on record with Reflection, What Do YOu Want Me To Do, performing I Love You In Me again.

Crazy You blew me away when I first listened to that CD. I had that song on repeat all night. lol I also love the title track, In Love, Soft and Wet, and I'm Yours. There are some hidden gems on that album. I would really love to hear his take on some of those songs today. If he had performed Crazy You during the acoustic set last year I would have lost it. cool

I think it's a great album in every way.

If you then consider the fact that every note is written, arranged, produced and performed by a then 19-year-old kid, then it's just amazing!

Nah, it's not that great.

It's pretty derivative and straight forward. Totally eclipsed by his later work.

It's solid stuff though; just somewhat forgettable.

It really is. I haven't listened to it in a while, come to think of it. It's not up there with 1999 or anything, but still very much solid and shows the makings of a legend.

Well, me too.

As far as I'm concerned, certain songs like Baby and I'm Yours beat the hell out of anything on Musicology.
