Prince 83 Live DVD

Just finally scored a copy of this, and deaaaaam, it's amazing.

I finally see what everyone's been talking about: Computer Blue kicks so much ass live.

And the full Electric Intercourse, that scream, those final two notes.

But the weirdest thing is how all the John Hughes-looking crowd is just like, oh gee, this is kind of neat. But maybe that's made him work so hard live in those days!

It was 100 plus degrees in the club.

However one of his top 5 greatest performances.

That hat was badazz

Is it? I didn't even know that was the same thing. Anyway, I'm so stoked to have it. The weird video quality even sort of makes it feel special. When he does his bug-eyes, it's truly freaky.

U hit it on the head with the John Hughes crowd! Although it's one girl right in the front that is diggin' P in a big way. The other cats just have that dazed jealous stare. That shit didn't have an effect on P. Remember, he opened for The Stones! Besides, if u see anyone with a look on their face like that, then all that means is that you're truly kicking their ass!

Are you all talking about the August 1983 performance from First Avenue? Because that crowd is pretty lively I thought. The one where he introduced the PR songs and was presented with an award from the MN dance company? "We dont have a Prince in MN, we have a king!"

This is a great concert: August 3rd 1983, First Avenue

Indeed: Purple Rain / I Would Die 4 U / Baby, I’m A Star
from this particular concert ended up on the Purple Rain album (Reworked / edited in the studio)

After seeing this concert, I noticed the acting during the performances in the Purple Rain movie ....
It’s like Prince is trying to copy this real performance. He should have captured this real performance with a proffesional multi-camera equipment to be used in the movie.

Is this an official DVD and where can you get it?
I got the homecoming DVD a couple of weeks ago completely by accident in a shop in Kerry (their only copy I might add for €9.99). The quality is poor (1983 concert with a nude tour cover) but it's very interesting and a must have for Prince collectors. Dirty Mind and 1999 kick ass with a ICNTTPOYM feel to them and International Lover is performed in a similar vein to If I was Your Girlfriend on the SOTT DVD complete with a bed elevating onto the stage. His antics then were so off the wall. I'd love to get the official Prince and the Revolution concert on DVD too from the Purple Rain era. The one which opens with the backwards message from Darling Nikki frontways.

The DVD mentioned here is a bootleg

I have that Homecoming DVD too , very cool performance , but very poor quality
indeed , and they edited out The Time and Vanity 6 's performance

The Syracuse concert from '85 might be an Ebay or something , it's quite cool
indeed
They should release it on DVD !

The Global Funkschool DVD-release "Syracuse" is really perfect ...
This is DVD-quality, it exceeds the official VHS-release easily (this DVD-boot is a perfect laserdisc-rip just like The Global Funkschool DVD-release "LoveSexy Live").

Man what a GREAT DVD. It's hot from start to finish. I looooove his version of Automatic and DMSR. Hearing ALL of Purple Rain was like a revelation. The energy was so thick with The Revolution, even though the crowd really didn't seem to know what to do with themselves. EVERYONE should get this in one way shape or form.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

The one I have is good quality and has The Time's and Vanity 6's set. They do Wet Dream as a slow funkier groove. Bloomington.

The Homecoming DVD was, in my opinion poor. I just don't enjoy watching home video style footage. The gig is great but the one camera angle becomes quickly frustrating.
Seek out... First Ave 83, Syracuse 85, Detroit 86, Dortmund 88 and either Tokyo or La Coruna 90 for great footage.

I like the one camera angle since it as if you are right in the middle up close. When he goes to the side the camera does pan there. I dont want any quick cuts or edits.
