Is this Prince, or is this Mazerati or is this Prince and Mazerati?

Prince wrote/produced the track and gave it to Mazarati for their album (apparently as a 'thank you' for their help with the "Kiss" arrangement). Mazarati replaced Prince's vocals (and possibly added more instrumentation - I can't remember off the top of my head). The original version with Prince's vocals is also circulating in the bootleg world.

There's a recent thread where the full story is explained in full. Prince's demo of Kiss was nothing more than a minute and a half of Prince on acoustic guitar recorded on the fly, it was Mazarati and David Z who really made the song that we know it to be.

100MPH was given to Mazarati along with Jerk Out, but they didn't like the latter song, so Prince quickly recorded Kiss and gave it them to finish off, when he heard the results he took the song back for himself.

Sorry, but the released version of Kiss, and the 12" version are both Prince. True, he did like what they did with it, but he re-did it himself, and the only Mazerati participation is the background vocals, for which they're credited.

I mean to go from an acoustic demo, to the finished version, you put the released version at the side of the Mazarati version, and they are very similar indeed.

The irony here is that when u listen 2 the Mazerati version, it sounds like a horrible cover version... The vocals just... suck.

But back 2 100MPH...

There's a long version of it, with an extended instrumental intro. I think it's mazerati, but it's so close 2 Prince's version, and I swear I hear Prince in the vocal mix. The snare isn't solely the Linn pop (as in P's version)... It's an over accented, layered snare and pop.

Any info?

I'm listening to a version right now of this and it sounds like it is an instrumental and it sounds much clearer than the one with P singing.
