By the way, I will take people's silence regarding this song as their"objection" and act accordingly. You have been warned. TMpletz? You are safe.

Funky as hell but still don't know what this song is about. Belongs in the proud pantheon of songs that includes the word "masturbates". Can't really think of any other songs in that pantheon but that doesn't make it any less proud. All good things they say never last...

Oops my bad...thought this said "Pheromone" appreciation thread. Getting glasses checked tomorrow.
"Possessed" does NOT contain any references to masturbation that I am aware of. All good things they say never last...

I freakin LOVE this song. In fact, I've been jammin to this song for the last couple of days. One of the best songs that he's never released. I hope that changes one day. [Edited 8/31/05 23:43pm] I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

It's a good song, and i really love the instrumental! "Man, the living creature, the creating individual, is always more important than any established style or system" - Bruce Lee

It'd be great if the 2nd version was circulating with a vocal track

My thoughts exactly. It's one of the few early 80s outtakes that I don't care much about as either version. The instrumental is just boring without the vocal hooks and the vocal version seems somewhat lifeless to me.

I had a possessed appreciation thread a while back. I LOVE IT. Especially the live version that i have on tape-- "Prince and the Revolution Live"....
Lets talk about the sheer lace pants he was wearing-- someone please comment. Dynamic Savior Said: Also, do you think that ugly people are God's cruel joke on humanity (like the platypus and the heterosexual) or another form of population control?

Here's another reason I love my iPod:
I'm working out and jamming to "Possessed". About 3 1/2 minutes into the song there's an instrumental portion where the only lyrics are "Possessed". Under all the instruments I hear Prince laying down a VOCAL BASS LINE leading to the "Possessed" line. It just blew me away.

Possessed is 1 of my all time favorites, both versions! I even put the lyrics in the "leave lyrics 4 another orger" thread

Not a big fan of the track. (and what is that instrumental piece of shit all about. )
Live on the Purple Rain tour is awesome tho'.

Firstly, 9sey, what the hell are you doing in this forum.
Secondly, Possessed rocks! When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

This song is one of the highlights on the "Prince & The Revolution: Live in Syracuse '85" video. This features Prince and his crew getting down and dirty while our hero is putting on his best James Brown schtick. In fact, that song is dedicated to The Godfather of Soul.
Easily one of the funkiest performances of Prince ever! NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Easily one of the funkiest performances of Prince ever! He should have fallen into the crowd at the end of that song. I'm sure James would get the joke.

I think we're this close from having a Tribute to Miles appreciation thread.

What a shame..I thought this thread was talking about the book. I've never heard the tune either but now perhaps I know what inspired the title!

I don't think 2the9s would ever profess to truly appreciate a tome like Alex Hahn's Possessed. The song Possessed is an early JB tribute musically. It is quite long and its sound is close to 1999.
